    Encounters with Ghosts

Were you fascinated by ghosts as child? I know I was. I would spend my lunch times in the school library, looking at books about ghosts and scaring myself silly with ghost pictures, like this one:

(This is a famous photograph taken in Newby Church, Yorkshire, and although it looks kind of fake to me now, it didn’t when I was a child!)

I was both fascinated and terrified by ghosts growing up. My first brush with a ghost was when I was about five or six years old, in our family home. The more I developed my intuitive abilities in my early twenties, the more I perceived ghosts. In my own home I rarely came into contact with a ghost, but I regularly came into contact with ghosts in hotels and in friends’ houses.

I spent the last three and a half weeks on holiday in England. During my holiday, I visited Blickling Hall in Norfolk, which is the supposed birthplace of Anne Boleyn (the second wife of King Henry VIII, who was beheaded by him in 1536 for adultery). Legend has it her birthplace Blickling Hall is haunted by her headless ghost, among the many ghosts that reside there.

I was looking forward to having a look inside and seeing what I might ‘pick up’ about the place but unfortunately only the grounds were open – the actual building was shut for the winter.

The afternoon spent at Blickling Hall reminded me that I’ve never written about the topic of ghosts, even though I get lots of questions about ghosts from readers.

    What Are Ghosts?

Ghosts are the mental and emotional bodies of the deceased. (Another term for them is ‘earthbound spirits’.)

They exist in the astrals, but have not fully crossed over to the astral realm and so a part of them is still on Earth. They are often found in hospitals, police stations, funeral parlours, cemeteries, bars, clubs, and hotels.

Ghosts can stay behind on the earth plane for a variety of reasons. For example, if a recently deceased soul believes they have done something wrong that they will be judged for, they may refuse to cross over. Or if a soul had an addiction when they were incarnated that they are not ready to release, they may also be reluctant to cross over. And when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly and the person is too shocked and distressed to cross over and leave their life behind, they may choose to stay on the earth plane. Unfinished business can also cause a soul to keep a part of themselves on the earth plane, long after their life has ended.

(Important note: don’t confuse ghosts with the popular term ‘negative entities’. Ghosts are not scary or even inherently negative – they were once incarnated people.)

    How Ghosts Affect us

Ghosts can occupy homes and can attach to peoples’ auras too. When they do this, they drain energy, which is one reason why it’s not a good idea to keep ghosts hanging around, no matter how much we like them!

One ghost will drain a very small amount of energy. But the more ghosts you have hanging around you, the more draining it becomes. The second reason why ghosts are to be avoided is because by nature they are emotionally unstable and very susceptible to negative emotions. When they attach to someone, they amplify and echo any pain and negative emotion in a person’s energy field. So if you feel angry and have one hundred earthbound spirits in your energy field, that anger will be amplified. The same goes for any fear, pain or guilt. Those negative emotions can be reduced by removing any earthbound spirits that are present (although note that removing the spirits might do nothing to remove the actual root cause of the negative emotion – these spirits simply echo negative emotion that is already there – they do not create it.)

What’s It Like When a Ghost Comes a-knocking?

Perhaps you have also had the experience of feeling a presence in your home or somewhere else. Here’s what it feels like for me:

It often happens as I’m falling asleep. The sides of my head get hot and start tingling.  Next, faces I don’t recognize start flashing through my mind’s eye furiously and usually, one or two will stick in my mind’s eye.  If I attempt to sleep, I get woken up, sometimes as often as every ten minutes or so and it feels like someone has hit me on the side of the head to wake me.  (This happens mostly in hotels and friends’ houses – it has only happened once in my own home.) If it goes on for long enough, I can clearly see in my mind’s eye the entity that is bothering me. The last time this happened in a friend’s house, I was told by the family living there that the description I gave of the entity I saw in my mind’s eye matched exactly the previous owner of the house who was known to be haunting the property.

    Who Attracts Ghosts?

Sensitive, empathic and intuitive people often notice ghosts.  And ghosts notice sensitive people and are attracted to their auras because they are so open.

Your aura may be even more open if you practise automatic writing, channelling or mediumship, and you are willing to channel whoever ‘comes through’.  Ideally, you would want to be channelling your Guides in spirit or your Higher self – not just any old spirit. For this reason, I recommend starting an automatic writing session by addressing your Higher self or Spirit Guides. Because if you are willing to open up to whoever comes through, you may actually be channelling the emotional body of a ghost who is still around on earth because they couldn’t let go of their physical addiction (as an example). That’s the earthly equivalent of asking someone who is on drugs or addicted to drugs, for advice on your latest life issue.  It’s possible that you might not get very helpful advice because it is could be coming from a place of stuckness and fear (remember that many ghosts won’t cross over because of fear, pain or sometimes a desire for revenge.)

In the first chapter of my Intuitive Awakening Course, we get clear on who it is OK to channel, for exactly this reason – there is no point asking for advice from disembodied entities who have no more (or even a lot less) perspective than you do on your own life. If you do end up channelling a ghost, the channelled information may not be very coherent or helpful.

    How to Avoid Channelling Ghosts

To prevent ghosts entering your aura, don’t open yourself up to channel just any old spirit.  Instead, channel your Higher self or the beings who were assigned to you to help you on your path (i.e. Spirit Guides and Guardian Angels.)  When you do channeling, request to channel your Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels or Higher self only – those beings who are with you at the choice of your soul.

Those who smoke marijuana can also attract ghosts in even larger numbers because this substance opens up your aura to these spirits.

What about you – ever had an encounter with a ghost? What happens for you when you perceive one? Do you have any further questions about ghosts? (I may write another article on this subject.) Feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

  • Does Developing Psychic Abilities Send You To Hell?! (Anna’s Journey To Hell And Back!!)

Does Developing Psychic Abilities Send You To Hell?! (Anna’s Journey To Hell And Back!!)

I started going to Church when I was 11 years old. I loved Church, I loved Jesus, I loved (some of) the Bible. Looking back, my interest in religion was as simple as it comes. I wasn’t interested in the ideas, or the chanting where we were pledging allegiance to God. I just loved basking in the energy of love and devotion to Spirit that I felt in a Church.

I thought some of the other people who went to Church were a bit weird, and I mostly spent my time in the back pew and in typical anti-social style I would slip out at the end of the service so I didn’t have to talk to anyone.

By 2003, I was at university in the UK and still identified as a Christian.

In 2003, I also met a girl called Catherine.

    Catherine

Catherine invited me to come along with her to her Bible study group. Being open to most things, I went along.

I found it was a group comprised only of young women. Many of them seemed emotionally and spiritually troubled – there were lots of eating disorders and mental illnesses among them. There was a lot of crying and sobbing during the study sessions. I remember one session where we were told that we must come to terms with the fact that most of our friends and some of our family would go to hell after death because they hadn’t accepted Jesus as their saviour. This produced a lot of crying and distress among them.

Most of the women who were very extreme were engaged to be married (or already married) to other guys in this Church.

    Their Church

At one point, I was invited along to their Church and I went. This was even stranger than the Bible study group and I had never experienced anything like it. There was singing, dancing and flag waving. There was a lot of mass hysteria and high emotion during services. People spoke in tongues and fell down with the Holy Spirit. When someone got a message from God, everyone listened.

It was difficult to hear the sound of my own reactions over what was going on in that place. I couldn’t take it all in. Was this normal?

I went a total of about three times. The third time I was sitting apart from my friends. I remember catching the eyes of a woman who was wearing a veil on her hair. I thought she was a Muslim. I remember seeing desperation in her eyes, as if she had lost someone, and I saw my own feelings reflected right back at me.

I couldn’t take anymore so I hightailed it out of there and then I remember walking along a canal path, crying bitter tears. I felt so, so lost. I didn’t know the angry, jealous God these people told me about – the God that was a tyrant, who gave and then took away, and who punished sins and exterminated forever those who didn’t believe.

When I got back to my student room, Catherine rang me. I blurted out that I couldn’t come to her Church anymore. I told her that I was taking a break from religion.

There was a silence on the other end of the phone.

That’s When I Saw an Even Darker Side…

Catherine told me that the reason I didn’t want to go to their Church was because I was under psychic attack from the devil. She’d seen it happen to people before.

I hung up and rang my grandmother. I was very distressed by this point. I didn’t know how to control the intense pain and negative emotions I was feeling. I told my grandmother what Catherine had said to me and told her about how I felt.

She told me I wasn’t under psychic attack from anything and asked me to come home for a holiday. I took some leave from University and went home for a while.

    My Decision

When I came back to University, I decided not to have anything to do with this church again.

They harassed me by letter. I met with them and they told me of God’s pain and anger towards me that I had let him down like this. I had several Christian friends attempt to bring me back onto the righteous path. I was warned that I was heading down the wrong road, and I could expect to see the negative results of this soon.

I knew that those results could not be as bad as what I had experienced in that church.

A few months passed and I felt happy again. I never saw any negative results from leaving the church and at no point did I feel like I had turned my back on God.

Instead I had turned my back on their angry God. A few years later, I was still getting harassing letters from Catherine, who feared for my soul. But in time I got over my anger towards her church and began to feel sorry that they were leading such fearful lives.

Later on, I read books such as Conversations with God and redefined my idea of what God was. I felt that there must be a source of all things – you could call it God, the Goddess, the mother and father, the universe, the creator. I found hidden under all of this religion stuff, MY simple truth: that all souls were a piece of this source energy, on a journey of remembering who they are. I rediscovered that the universe is kind; that God is kindness. I found that by honouring the voice of the God(dess) within me, I was kind to myself and to others. Kinder than I had ever been.

Later on, when I developed my psychic abilities, I found that developing psychically felt more in tune with my spirit than religion had been. At least with my intuition, I was able to assess for myself and hear what my own spirit had to say about things. I didn’t have to swallow what other people told me.

    Psychic Abilities vs. Religion

I know that religion can hold the essence of Divine Love because I’ve felt it. But I also think that religion can be powerfully unkind and this is evident in what I experienced in that church and in what I read in newspapers. I won’t participate in organized religion – organized anything, where people are told what to believe and swallow it, even when it hurts. I do not feel that men can be priests, but not women. Nor do I feel that God wants us to take an eye for an eye, or a tooth for a tooth. Does the powerful creative force of the universe want us to hide child abuse or discourage the use of contraceptives? I don’t think so.

But I would never ask you to agree with me.

Instead, I am all for developing and practising the capacity to see what sits right in your soul (if you have not already), and hold true to it. In spite of what any religion or belief system tells us.

To me, that’s what intuitive development is.  Everyone has their own unique path back to God/Source/Goddess and their own truth.

So, my personal answer to ‘does developing psychic abilities send you to hell’ is no. I do believe in hell – but only the kind you can experience by attending an evangelical church!! 😉

What do you think? Can you relate to my experiences?

  • Four Tips for Choosing a Psychic Reader

Four Tips for Choosing a Psychic Reader

I’ve been offering readings, and having readings as a client for over ten years now. Here are my 4 best tips for choosing a good intuitive or psychic to read for you…

    1. Don’t use a telephone hotline psychic unless you’re OK with taking a risk

Although I personally know one trusted and reputable psychic who works on a psychic hotline, I also know that some less scrupulous phone lines employ virtually anyone. If you call one of these hotlines you could get lucky OR more likely, you’ll end up speaking to someone who has very basic intuition or worse still, a cold reader.

The safest bet is to find someone who works for themselves and who finds their own clients.

    2. Get referrals from people you trust, and also trust your gut instinct

Recommendations from people you trust is a good sign that the psychic is the real deal. But above all you need to trust your own instincts and judgment.

I remember a reading I had done a while back with a guy who had been recommended by a friend whom I trusted. My friend thought this guy was a brilliant psychic. At one point, I booked a reading with him but on the morning of my appointment I did not want to go. I felt dread but I didn’t know why. I called my friend and told him I didn’t have a good feeling about it but he talked me into going, saying it was my ego’s resistance. When I arrived for my appointment at this man’s house, it was a really unpleasant experience.

I really couldn’t understand what my friend saw in this psychic. My feeling of dread and fear before the reading was trying to keep me away from that particular person and I should have heeded that.

So, listen to your feelings in the presence (or web-presence) of a psychic you plan to get a reading with. Do you feel comfortable and safe? It’s normal to feel a bit nervous before a reading, but you should not feel negative or fearful. If you do, stay away.

Your feelings or intuition might also alert you to a psychic who can help you. My clients often say to me that their intuition impulsed them to get a reading with me and they were glad they did. The same thing happens to me when I get my readings – I feel drawn to certain sites and not so much to others and I heed that to help me choose the right reader for me at that time.

    3. Make sure the psychic can do what you want them to

Just because someone calls herself a psychic/intuitive doesn’t always mean that they can tell you your life purpose AND connect with your dead auntie AND predict your future.

Some psychics are competent in a few different areas and most good psychics will tell you upfront what their specialisms are. Some can connect with the dead, some are good at future predictions, some specialize in telling you about past lives, life purpose, relationships, etc. Some are good at all those things. So when you are choosing a psychic reader, if necessary, email the psychic and ask them outright – is X, Y, and Z something you could help me with?

For example, if someone books a reading with me and they just want me to make predictions about their future – for example ‘will I meet my soulmate?’ or ‘will I be rich before I’m 30?’, their Spirit Guides are more likely to tell me what the client needs to do to get there. The Spirit Guides I encounter tend to be more interested in the client exercising their free will and reminding the clients that the future is in their own hands.

One client may be delighted with that, but another client may just think “all I wanted was a prediction”.

I myself go to different psychics for different areas of my life (I don’t tend to read for myself especially when it’s an issue that’s right under my nose).

I am not personally offering readings at the moment, but when I was, the readings of mine that tended to be really successful were in the areas of life/soul purpose, making decisions, business and career. So, I used to structure my readings around all of that. I’m also good at seeing past lives and I get a lot of information about peoples’ issues and the negative mindsets/beliefs which hold people back.

On the other hand, I suck at finding lost objects – I can’t even find my own let alone anyone else’s. I would not call predictions one of my specialisms. I am also not a very skilled medium. From time to time I get deceased relatives coming through during a reading and I can get names and appearances, but I am not that skilled at interpreting their messages.

    4. A high price does not always = quality

If you’re paying a lot of money, it should mean you’re getting a better, more accurate psychic, right?

Well, not necessarily. Most regular psychics (the ones who speak with your Spirit Guides) just pass on the messages you need to hear from your guides at that time. The messages don’t generally become better or more exciting if you pay more money.

I have paid between $10 and $400 for psychic readings and I have to say that the $400 reading wasn’t that much different from the $10 reading. Sometimes it can be that a cheap reading is very good.

A high price usually means that a psychic easily gets a long waiting list. So, in order to cope with demand, they put their prices up. Psychics can have a long waiting list for numerous reasons – they can be in high demand because they’re very good. They can also have a long waiting list because they’re great at marketing and publicizing their work. Or they have a referral source who sends them shedloads of clients.

A low price can also mean a psychic who’s a newbie to the profession. When I started I didn’t charge that much. Although I have got better over the years, I still got some great testimonials from clients I read for around that time, so clients seemed to be as happy with my work then as they are now.

So, a high price can mean a great psychic, but it doesn’t always. My advice is not to pay too much attention to price as an indicator of quality.

What have your experiences been with this?

  • Can Anna Predict My Future?

    Can Anna Predict My Future?

This is something I get asked often by clients and the answer is maybe. Here’s why:

Whether or not I can predict your future depends on what you’re asking me to predict.

In this article, I explain why psychics can predict some things but not others.

    How Predictions Work

To make a prediction, a psychic will consciously (or not so consciously) tune into your ‘chart’ for this lifetime. Your ‘chart’ looks like a massive web of pathways that are available to you. You literally spend your life journeying through this web of possibilities, taking pathway after pathway. There are two types of ‘intersection’ on this web, as one pathway ends and a new one begins – these are called choice points and destiny points.

    Choice Points

There are thousands of choice points in your ‘web’ of possibilities. When we’re at a choice point intersection, in the physical we have to make a decision about something which will impact on our future. At first glance, it may not seem like a choice that will make a difference. It may simply be whether or not to buy a certain book, or whether to go on a workshop, or whether to say yes to someone’s invitation. On this energetic ‘web’ of possibilities, there are five pathways of possibility leading towards the choice point and five pathways of possibility leading away from a choice point. We can take whichever path we want. The path we choose will lead us to another choice point, and when we take one of those paths, it will lead us to another choice point and so it goes on. The series of pathways that we take collectively make up the unique path that we choose for our life. But there are different pathways available to us as well, if we want them.

    Destiny Points

The other kind of intersection to be found on this web of possibilities is the destiny point. You usually have between 10 and 30 destiny points on your web of possibilities. These are the major, predestined events of your life; the events you chose to experience before you even incarnate. Not all of these events are 100% predestined, however – there is an element of flexibility involved. For example, you could choose to have a relationship with a particular soul during your lifetime, but it may not be predestined how long the relationship lasts or when you will meet.

The first destiny point on your web of possibilities is always your birth and the last destiny point will always be your death. The others may relate to certain relationships you will have in your lifetime (as the example above) they could relate to work that you will do, the conception and birth of children (this is usually predestined for women), health challenges you experience, chance meetings you will have, etc.

    What Can Psychics Accurately Predict?

With this in mind, most psychics can accurately predict the following:

    • What your destiny points are in your life – i.e. the major events and relationships
    • If a client is currently at a choice point, a good psychic can usually tell what the outcome will be if they take such-and-such a path. This is useful because if you’re going down a dead end (ie. a pathway that does not align with your desired outcome or your highest path and purpose) a psychic can let you know and save you time and energy.

    What I Cannot Predict

    • If you’re asking me to predict a major life event and there’s no destiny point present for it, then I can’t make an accurate prediction. There are so many choice point paths for you to take along the way – and your future shifts and changes with each path you take
    • It’s also challenging to be able to predict exact details of destiny points – like timings, since these are often not set in stone.

    When Predictions Are Unhelpful

I personally shy away from making predictions about future events, because often it’s not in our best interests to receive a prediction. There are a few reasons for this:

    1. Predictions spoil the surprise

I am constantly amazed by the unpredictable and exciting ways in which life plays out. On the few occasions that a psychic has given me information about how things are going to play out, instead of it being exciting, it has felt like an anti-climax – a bit like ‘game over’ on a computer game. Or knowing what your Christmas presents are before you’ve unwrapped them – makes the unwrapping process less exciting, doesn’t it?

    2. Predictions can encourage us to give away our power

The desire for predictions and the reassurance that predictions bring, is based on a worldview (one which I do not ascribe to) which says ‘We’re not in control of our future, therefore we need to know what’s coming up’.

Sometimes a psychic with this worldview can, in good faith, give someone a prediction, believing it’s 100% certain and it turns out it’s just one of the many pathways available to them on their ‘chart’. But that prediction has already narrowed down their view of the choices before them.

And once the client has taken that prediction to heart (maybe because they like the way it sounds), that person can hand themselves over to ‘fate’ and begin to manifest according to the prediction. It can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. That may be all right if it’s something they want to experience, but what if energetically it’s a dead end for them or something they don’t want to experience? It may be a dead end with a lesson contained within it, but it’s still a dead end, which leads me to my next point…

    3. Sometimes our Higher self/Guides might give us false information about the future

‘What?’ I hear you cry! ‘My Higher self would NEVER give me false information!’

That’s what I thought too. I am going to tell you an embarrassing story which illustrates that intuitive information can at times be purposely false.

Late last year, I was in the final phase of my professional intuitive training and learning all about destiny points and choice points. I was also in a relationship with a man who lived in London. (I was living in Spain at the time.) This guy was doing the same spiritual healing training as me and we were both fascinated with the idea of destiny points – a little too fascinated for our own good.

One day, we did a bit of research together into our respective destiny points – we wanted to know which destiny points were in the life area of relationships, health, work, finances, etc. And in the process my ex-boyfriend discovered some information about a destiny point that we shared – he found that one of my destiny points was to have a child. With him. Oh, yes! The timing wasn’t predetermined, but we were to have a child together. Our relationship fell apart soon after that because we believed in the information available in the Akashic Records (we’d seen real-world evidence of it). But our relationship only fell apart after I had left my job in Spain and set up my new healing business, because I thought my future was in London with this guy. Was it in my highest path and purpose to have a baby with this guy? No!

But it WAS in my highest path and purpose to leave Spain, move to London and start my own business. So you can see the motive behind the false prediction. It caused me to leave my teaching job (which I was tired of) and take some big, scary steps towards a new career, which I may not have taken otherwise. That false prediction gave me the illusion of safety which I needed in order to change my life.

In fact, we later found out that the ‘destiny point’ did not exist – he asked our teacher to check it and she found no such destiny point. He hadn’t made the whole thing up, but rather he had been given misinformation about it. The destiny point mysteriously disappeared from our soul records once it had served its purpose.

The moral of this story is: don’t go looking for information about your future unless you can handle it or you’re OK with receiving misinformation if your Higher self happens to see an opportunity to get you back on track to take the paths which ARE in alignment with your highest path and purpose.
