    3 Years Ago Today

Three years ago today I left my job teaching English in a language school in Northern Spain. I felt like I was dying inside at the job I was working in. I was exhausted, tired of the monotony and lonely, away from home. I remember it was winter time, and it snowed a lot, as I was in the mountains.

I had felt the pressure building inside of me over several months. I had always hated winter. And a little voice said ‘Leave. Start your own business.’ Every day it spoke to me and every day I ignored it because I had no business, no clients and no website. And I had no idea how to start one. Until one day, I finally cracked. And I couldn’t stay any longer. Even if I didn’t know how I was going to start afresh – I had no idea.

And I did something not so admirable, which was to leave my employer in the lurch with only a week’s notice to replace me, in a tiny mountain village. Sorry, boss! – I couldn’t stay a day longer.

And I left the tiny mountain village with about $300 to my name, no job and still no business. And no website (the website happened one month later and was called ‘Healing and Insight’ back then and a computer nerd friend had put it together for me in an afternoon.)

    What was I thinking?!

I had backed myself into a corner (at least in my mind) and for the next couple of years or so I knew it – I made a lot of decisions out of panic, impulsiveness and financial scary-ness.  In love, life and in work, I have learned so much in three years.

And things worked out.  But it taught me to take things slooooowly and I gained a healthy respect both for employment and for self-employment.

For me, this website has been my lesson, become my independence, my passion, my challenge.

I wanted to say, if you are a regular reader, thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, thank you for supporting this site.  I look forward to the next three years!

  • Encounters with Ghosts

    Encounters with Ghosts

Were you fascinated by ghosts as child? I know I was. I would spend my lunch times in the school library, looking at books about ghosts and scaring myself silly with ghost pictures, like this one:

(This is a famous photograph taken in Newby Church, Yorkshire, and although it looks kind of fake to me now, it didn’t when I was a child!)

I was both fascinated and terrified by ghosts growing up. My first brush with a ghost was when I was about five or six years old, in our family home. The more I developed my intuitive abilities in my early twenties, the more I perceived ghosts. In my own home I rarely came into contact with a ghost, but I regularly came into contact with ghosts in hotels and in friends’ houses.

I spent the last three and a half weeks on holiday in England. During my holiday, I visited Blickling Hall in Norfolk, which is the supposed birthplace of Anne Boleyn (the second wife of King Henry VIII, who was beheaded by him in 1536 for adultery). Legend has it her birthplace Blickling Hall is haunted by her headless ghost, among the many ghosts that reside there.

I was looking forward to having a look inside and seeing what I might ‘pick up’ about the place but unfortunately only the grounds were open – the actual building was shut for the winter.

The afternoon spent at Blickling Hall reminded me that I’ve never written about the topic of ghosts, even though I get lots of questions about ghosts from readers.

    What Are Ghosts?

Ghosts are the mental and emotional bodies of the deceased. (Another term for them is ‘earthbound spirits’.)

They exist in the astrals, but have not fully crossed over to the astral realm and so a part of them is still on Earth. They are often found in hospitals, police stations, funeral parlours, cemeteries, bars, clubs, and hotels.

Ghosts can stay behind on the earth plane for a variety of reasons. For example, if a recently deceased soul believes they have done something wrong that they will be judged for, they may refuse to cross over. Or if a soul had an addiction when they were incarnated that they are not ready to release, they may also be reluctant to cross over. And when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly and the person is too shocked and distressed to cross over and leave their life behind, they may choose to stay on the earth plane. Unfinished business can also cause a soul to keep a part of themselves on the earth plane, long after their life has ended.

(Important note: don’t confuse ghosts with the popular term ‘negative entities’. Ghosts are not scary or even inherently negative – they were once incarnated people.)

    How Ghosts Affect us

Ghosts can occupy homes and can attach to peoples’ auras too. When they do this, they drain energy, which is one reason why it’s not a good idea to keep ghosts hanging around, no matter how much we like them!

One ghost will drain a very small amount of energy. But the more ghosts you have hanging around you, the more draining it becomes. The second reason why ghosts are to be avoided is because by nature they are emotionally unstable and very susceptible to negative emotions. When they attach to someone, they amplify and echo any pain and negative emotion in a person’s energy field. So if you feel angry and have one hundred earthbound spirits in your energy field, that anger will be amplified. The same goes for any fear, pain or guilt. Those negative emotions can be reduced by removing any earthbound spirits that are present (although note that removing the spirits might do nothing to remove the actual root cause of the negative emotion – these spirits simply echo negative emotion that is already there – they do not create it.)

What’s It Like When a Ghost Comes a-knocking?

Perhaps you have also had the experience of feeling a presence in your home or somewhere else. Here’s what it feels like for me:

It often happens as I’m falling asleep. The sides of my head get hot and start tingling.  Next, faces I don’t recognize start flashing through my mind’s eye furiously and usually, one or two will stick in my mind’s eye.  If I attempt to sleep, I get woken up, sometimes as often as every ten minutes or so and it feels like someone has hit me on the side of the head to wake me.  (This happens mostly in hotels and friends’ houses – it has only happened once in my own home.) If it goes on for long enough, I can clearly see in my mind’s eye the entity that is bothering me. The last time this happened in a friend’s house, I was told by the family living there that the description I gave of the entity I saw in my mind’s eye matched exactly the previous owner of the house who was known to be haunting the property.

    Who Attracts Ghosts?

Sensitive, empathic and intuitive people often notice ghosts.  And ghosts notice sensitive people and are attracted to their auras because they are so open.

Your aura may be even more open if you practise automatic writing, channelling or mediumship, and you are willing to channel whoever ‘comes through’.  Ideally, you would want to be channelling your Guides in spirit or your Higher self – not just any old spirit. For this reason, I recommend starting an automatic writing session by addressing your Higher self or Spirit Guides. Because if you are willing to open up to whoever comes through, you may actually be channelling the emotional body of a ghost who is still around on earth because they couldn’t let go of their physical addiction (as an example). That’s the earthly equivalent of asking someone who is on drugs or addicted to drugs, for advice on your latest life issue.  It’s possible that you might not get very helpful advice because it is could be coming from a place of stuckness and fear (remember that many ghosts won’t cross over because of fear, pain or sometimes a desire for revenge.)

In the first chapter of my Intuitive Awakening Course, we get clear on who it is OK to channel, for exactly this reason – there is no point asking for advice from disembodied entities who have no more (or even a lot less) perspective than you do on your own life. If you do end up channelling a ghost, the channelled information may not be very coherent or helpful.

    How to Avoid Channelling Ghosts

To prevent ghosts entering your aura, don’t open yourself up to channel just any old spirit.  Instead, channel your Higher self or the beings who were assigned to you to help you on your path (i.e. Spirit Guides and Guardian Angels.)  When you do channeling, request to channel your Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels or Higher self only – those beings who are with you at the choice of your soul.

Those who smoke marijuana can also attract ghosts in even larger numbers because this substance opens up your aura to these spirits.

What about you – ever had an encounter with a ghost? What happens for you when you perceive one? Do you have any further questions about ghosts? (I may write another article on this subject.) Feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

    Best Articles of 2010

In case you are new to this blog, or don’t have time to scour the articles page to find the best articles, here is a list of the best blog posts of 2010 (or at least, my favourites):

How your Personality Flaws Point to your Soul Gifts (anti self-development)

The Simple Truth about Life Purpose (it’s not a big mission, in my opinion)

Life Is Not Such a Bitch After All (Probably my biggest personal epiphany of 2010)

How Far Out Of The Psychic Closet Do You Want To Be? (my experiences coming out of the psychic closet)

Choosing my favourite articles of 2010 allowed me to see an overview of the path I travelled in 2010. 2010 was the year I juggled my teaching job and this website (which I am no longer doing – thank God…it was unsustainable). It was also the year I left Australia, came to New Zealand to settle here. In 2010 I also launched the hugely popular cord-cutting sessions (which now outnumber the readings I do in terms of volume). It was also the year I created the Intuitive Awakening Course.

For 2011, I only have one project in the offing – to release my Akashic Record Reading Program in the summer and I am really looking forward to writing the course that I would have done had it existed.

I spent three and a half years collecting skills, discarding things that didn’t sit right with me, and even discarding some things that simply didn’t work. I kept (and refined) the things that did work. I spent a lot of money and time doing this and I hope to save students time and money by teaching them the best of the skills I’ve collected, without any of the mistakes, twists and turns that I went through.

Thank you so much to all readers and commenters for reading and sharing your thoughts here in 2010. Your comments have given me inspiration and food for thought and being able to share my experiences on this blog with like-minded people has brought me a lot of joy.  I may not have time to reply to every single comment but I enable them all personally and read them all.

I wish all readers a happy and prosperous 2011!

  • More on the Ethics of the Intuitive Experiments & How to Improve Your Skills

I wrote this blog post in response to some questions that came up around the intuitive experiment.

A commenter (Dusty) brought up an interesting question in the comments of the last article – is it OK to read a living person in an experiment like this? I thought I’d already answered this question in my article What are the Ethics of Reading Other People? but upon reading it a few months after I wrote it, I realized it wasn’t very clear. So here is a clarification.

I feel it is OK to read the following types of people (in private):

People you need some information about (NEED and not want!). For example, if you have a picture of a potential babysitter you might hire, you can read him/her to see if they are trustworthy enough to look after your kids. You could do the same with potential employees or potential bosses. You could read potential dates on internet dating sites – are they honest? Do they have any major characteristics that jump out at you as barriers to a relationship? Before you book a reading with a psychic or healer, you could read them using their photo, to see if you trust them.

(Even if you are not comfortable yet making a decision on a vibe you get, I challenge you, the next time you have to make a decision about another person, to do a reading on it, using their photo! It can really help to build confidence when you experience that your instincts are very reliable.)

Anyway, back to the ethics side of it.

I don’t believe it is ethical to publish or otherwise share a reading like this; a reading that you do of someone who is not in the public domain. I think to do this would be a violation. People who are not in the public domain (i.e. not celebrities or famous) did not ask for the contents of their aura and inner life to be made public. For this reason, I won’t ever ask you to read a non-famous person in one of these experiments.

I also don’t recommend you send the reading you did of the person to them, unless you want to alienate them. A few people have sent me unsolicited readings of me and it wasn’t very nice to read them, a bit like someone had invaded my privacy. The aura readings you do in private are just for your own purposes – and based on what you need to know.

If you do a reading on someone just because you’re curious (for example – is my friend’s husband having an affair?) then you will probably get misinformation because it’s not your business.

Who else is it OK to read?

I think it is OK to do a public reading (i.e. an experiment like this) on someone who is in the public domain, either dead or living. This person preferably would be someone who has sought notoriety or attention in some way. Frederic Bourdin is someone who has appeared on TV shows and given interviews with the press. He’s also been in the public eye because of his crimes. So I feel it is OK to read him.

    Improving your Skills

Another question I’ve been asked following this exercise is ‘how can I improve my skills at reading other people?’

    intuitive awakening

I realized I hadn’t mentioned that in my Intuitive Awakening Course, I have a whole chapter dedicated to reading others, with some practice photos. Also in that chapter is the very effective technique that I personally use to read a person’s aura, using a photo.

Practice makes perfect. You could also do these experiments with a friend – ask a friend to send you a photo of a famous person you don’t recognize and try reading them! Then find out who it is and see if you were accurate.

  • Who Was the Man in the Photo? – Results of Intuitive Experiment #2

Who Was the Man in the Photo? – Results of Intuitive Experiment #2

So at last, the results of the intuitive experiment.

Who is the man in the photo?

    His name is Frédéric Bourdin.

Frédéric Bourdin is a French serial imposter the Press has nicknamed ‘The Chameleon’. Over the years, he has assumed at least 39 false identities, 3 of them were actual missing persons. He tends to impersonate teenagers. He hasn’t impersonated anyone for a few years now and has since got married, settled down and had children.

You were right not to trust him, though!

Just over 75 people did this experiment, leaving comments and sending emails. Over half of those people did not trust him. Out of those people who did trust him, there were only 7. The rest didn’t comment on whether they trusted him.

Those who didn’t trust him said things like:

He’s a con artist; untrustworthy; cruel. Some people felt his energy was ‘icky’, negative, some felt sick when they tuned into him.

Here’s some information about his ‘acting’ exploits:

Thirteen years ago, he took the identity of Nicholas Barclay, a missing teenager from San Antonio, Texas. In spite of having the wrong eye colour and the fact he spoke with a French accent, he still managed to persuade the family that he was their long-lost son. He lived with the family for three months before a local private investigator realized what was going on and a DNA test confirmed that he was not their son. He was imprisoned for six years as a result.

But he didn’t stop there. He did it again in 2003 in Southern France – he claimed he was missing teenager Leo Balley but again, DNA tests proved he was lying.

And again the next year, he pretended to be teenager Ruben Sanchez Espinoza and said his mother had been killed in the Madrid bomb attacks. He was deported back to France when the truth came out.

And again in 2005, he managed to pass himself off as an orphaned teenager half his age – Francisco Hernandes-Fernandez and he spent time in a French school. The truth came out again one month later and he was given four months in prison for stealing the identity of Leo Balley. The photo above is from that period in his life.

So that’s probably why you picked up he was untrustworthy and cruel, which many people did.

    Sorrow in his Past

A third of those who responded picked up on the pain and sorrow from his past. Here is what Wikipedia says about his past:

“Bourdin was raised by his grandparents in Paris and was later put into a children’s home. He says that he never knew his father, that his mother intended to have an abortion and eventually abandoned him and that he was sexually abused. In an interview with the New Yorker, his mother said that Bourdin’s father was an Algerian immigrant. He began his impostures as soon as he left the children’s home.

According to his 2005 interviews, Bourdin has been looking for “love and affection” and attention he never received as a child. He has pretended to be an orphan several times and almost always plays an abused and abandoned child.”

Although it seems he was apparently not motivated by financial gain, I certainly would not trust him with money. I personally suspect he could be just as slippery with money as he is with the truth.

    So who is he now?

One of the commenters, Lisa said:

“Isn’t it interesting how the responses are very much one way or the other: caring and sensitive AND cruel and untrustworthy.”

Although many people didn’t trust him, some people did like him, some felt he was caring and sensitive and some felt sorry for him. I feel this impression comes from his difficult childhood. Tuning into his energy, I feel a very confused man at the time of this photo, definitely untrustworthy, but someone who might feel bad about what he had done later on.

Are you picking up on who he is now?

In 2007, Bourdin married a French woman named Isabelle after a yearlong courtship. They have three children, the first one a daughter. He was interviewed by a journalist from the Guardian who asked him if he had become a new person now that he was a father and a husband, to which Bourdin replied, “No, this is who I am.”

My Conclusion – the Conflicting Answers

The two ways in which he was seen by readers (caring and sensitive OR untrustworthy and cruel) could be interpreted in two ways:

    1. Who he is now vs. who he was before or

    2. Who he is on the inside (emotionally sensitive, needing love and attention) vs. the cruel things he did to get this attention.

Many other of the impressions that you picked up were correct – here are a couple more:

    Music

Many felt that he was interested in music or had some talent in this area. When he was acting as one of the missing teenagers he impersonated (Francisco), he apparently showed a dazzling knowledge of music and he also impressed everyone with his Michael Jackson performance.

    His ability as an actor

Being able to convince a family that you’re their long-lost son (although very cruel) does show some talent as an actor and shows a certain intelligence too.

    Nationality

In terms of nationality, ten people rightly picked up he was French (he does look French, in my opinion.) Some people also picked up on the American connection and the British and Spanish connections (he’s impersonated British, Spanish and American people and speaks English well.)

His aliases have included Benjamin Kent, Jimmy Morins, Alex Dole, Sladjan Raskovic, Arnaud Orions, Giovanni Petrullo and Michelangelo Martini (Italians).

    How did you do?

Some people did really well and got multiple hits in their responses. Well done!

If you’d like further tips to improve your skills in reading people, I have some pointers below that you can perhaps use for the next experiment. For those who did this for the first time, please know that it takes a lot of practice to read someone accurately. I’m pretty sure I would have sucked on my first few attempts, at the very least. How you do now has no bearing on how you might do in the future, because it’s all about practice.

But here is the question to ask yourself when in doubt about someone – tune into them and ask:

Would I trust this person with my treasures? – for example: my children, my money or my treasured possessions.

Your instincts in response to that question are very revealing and this is the most basic and usually the most reliable form of intuition a person can have.

See yourself being put in a situation where you have to trust this person with something – do you feel very uneasy? It is normal not to feel 100% certain but if you get a real NO about it, then that’s your answer.

    Not Everyone is Trustworthy

One of the barriers to reading people accurately is a belief that everyone is a nice person underneath. We read people according to our beliefs. This can have you trusting and liking someone who will only hurt you.

As you may know, I don’t believe that anyone is fundamentally negative or dark on the soul-level, but I do believe that people sometimes incarnate in negative roles (what past life regression therapist Dr. Coletta Long calls perpetrator lifetimes.) And those people exist in the world. I doubt that Frederic Bourdin is one of them – he seems to me to be a very confused soul with a strange way of rebelling against life and the way he was brought up.

What I’ve learned through this experiment is that a connection to reality matters when reading people. If you have a shaky connection to human reality and not much energy concentrated in the lower chakras, you may be wonderful at connecting to angels, but not so good at getting the truth about another human. You may only see the person on the soul level, which is fine, until that person does something that is not aligned with who they are on the soul level. So, if you are a very spiritual person, the more grounding you have in your life and connection to reality, the better you become at reading character.

This is just what I’ve observed and believe anyway. Tell me what your thoughts are on this.

And how did you do? Please leave a comment letting me know…

And thank you for taking part. It was fun doing this experiment.

  • What Happens in a Cord Cutting Session

What Happens in a Cord Cutting Session

I wrote this blog post for the curious people who want to know what a cord cutting session is like. It’s also for those who have booked a cord cutting so they know a bit about what to expect.

Cord-cutting sessions are very different from a reading. (For a start, unlike in a psychic reading, we do not involve Spirit Guides or other astral-level beings in a cord-cutting session.)

So here’s what happens when you book a cord-cutting. Please note that this is a summary for the purposes of the curious reader or the client who has already booked a session. I don’t include all details of the cord-cutting session in here – just enough so that you can familiarize yourself with the process.

    Setting Your Intention

At the start of the session, I ask you for your intention – one way in which you’d like your life to be different or better through this session. That way, you are in control of your healing. Here are some examples of intentions you could bring to the session:

    • I want to increase my self-confidence
    • I want to have better boundaries and feel comfortable with saying ‘no’ to people
    • I want to improve my relationship with so-and-so
    • I want to let go of a past relationship with so-and-so

Creating An Energetic Space for Healing

Next, we create a clear, protected space for the healing to take place. For it to be a clear space, you preferably should be alone in the room (it’s better to leave the dog or cat outside of the room) and at that point the client chooses either an Ascended Master or an Archangel to bring the healing energy of a session. Obviously it isn’t me who heals a client, it’s the being who’s in charge of the session.

Some examples: Ascended master Jesus, Ascended master Buddha, Mother Mary, Saint Germain, Krishna, Ganesh, Quan Yin, Athena, St Francis, Merlin. There are also the Archangels, such as Archangel Raphael, who brings healing and Archangel Gabriel, who facilitates communication. Another favourite is Archangel Michael who protects us and removes things we no longer want or need. Of course, you can even call on God for the session, otherwise known as the cosmic intelligence, the creator of all beings, Source or the Great Spirit.

(You can find a list of my favourite Ascended Masters and Archangels here.)

Once we’ve summoned your chosen Ascended Master/Archangel and prepared the energetic space for healing (by asking for protection and cleansing through violet flames and Divine support for the client’s aura) we decide who to cut cords with.

    Who To Cut Cords With?

Sometimes clients already know who they want to cut a cord with, and I check we have Divine permission to do this. Occasionally we can be refused permission to cut a cord (for example, if the client would go through a significant healing crisis by cutting the cord, then permission would not be given.)

The Archangels & Ascended Masters that we work with always have the client’s wellbeing in mind. But a scenario like that is fairly rare.

Occasionally I may find that a client needs to remove some ‘energy clutter’ from their aura before we can go ahead and cut a cord. So, if you book a session with me or anyone I have trained in this modality, you do need to be prepared for this possibility – I may instead suggest we use your session time for removing the energy clutter. Then if you wish you can book another session to remove the cord you had in mind. This does not happen often but can occur, so please bear that in mind when booking. (And if you choose not to go ahead with the alternative type of healing, we can end the session and refund your session fee.)

Back to the cord cutting process. Presuming that we have Divine permission to go ahead and cut a cord, here’s what happens next…

Sometimes clients are not sure who to cut cords with, but they have a few ideas. What I can do is check which cord, if cut, might help to bring about that intention they set. Sometimes we find out which is the most toxic, but I always leave it up to the client to decide which cord to cut.

If you are getting a session with me, you want to be cutting a significant cord in the session (to make it worth your while).

Who Do We Normally Have Significant Cords To?

    • Those who have hurt you with violence or abuse of some form
    • Those involved with you (or those who caused for you) a major accident or trauma
    • Parents
    • Siblings
    • Biological parents (if you happen to be adopted)
    • Children
    • Sexual partners involved in conceiving a child
    • The person with whom you lost your virginity
    • Ex-lovers you lived with or ex-spouses
    • Childhood friends
    • Spiritual teachers, healers or therapists who influenced you negatively
    • Cult leaders
    • Bullies from childhood (or adulthood)
    • Extremely difficult employers, employees, co-workers or clients

Let’s say the client has decided to cut the cord to an ex-boyfriend.

Next, I take a look at the client’s chakra system to see which chakras are most affected by the cord this client has to her ex. There are usually 2-3 chakras that we focus on for the healing, and I describe to the client what I can see there and how the cord is affecting her.

    Where Is The Cord?

Next, we find out where the cord is on the client’s body, for the purposes of cutting it.

    Giving Permission

Now I ask the client to read out a permission statement, giving our chosen Archangel or Ascended Master permission to cut the cord. This is like a spiritual contract and it is needed in order for the healing to happen.

    Cutting The Cord

Then the cord cutting happens along with the help of the Archangel or Ascended Master. And the cord goes into the violet flame that we set up, one in every corner of the room, when we set up the protected space for the healing.

Finding Out More About The Dynamics in The Cord

Within a cord, there are negative patterns of behaviour, thought and emotion that circulate in the cord, back and forth between the two people. This part of the session is for finding out which energies are present in the cord.

    It might be things like:

Abigail: You never listen to me

Ex-boyfriend: You can never give me enough.

    Etc etc.

It usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes for me to retrieve all the dynamics within a cord, then I read it out to the client. There is quite a lot of detail in there. This can be very validating to hear what was in the cord, because those patterns circulate back and forth between the client and the cordee and can affect the relationship and the client’s emotions, personal power and mental clarity (amongst other things).

The patterns within a cord do not even need to be the dominant things of the relationship. They are not the whole story about the relationship or everything about the client or the cordee. Sometimes they can even be thoughts and emotions from one single event, which have got stuck in the cord at some point.

    Discussion

Once those patterns are no longer flowing into the client’s aura, we talk about how they were affecting her and we discuss the question of what can change now that the cord is cut. Depending on the client, this can take 5 minutes or 10 minutes or longer.

    Homework

Afterwards, I might receive some practical homework for the client to do around the healing. It can be anything from a written assignment, a brainstorm to do, a practical task or something to think about or meditate upon.

Then we complete the session and cut any ties between us or anyone else who was thought about or spoken about during the session. We hang up, and I send you the recording.

You can learn how to cut your own cords or do cord cutting for others here.

  • Spooky Dreams, The Deceased & When There’s No Point to the Psychic Info We Pick Up

Spooky Dreams, The Deceased & When There’s No Point to the Psychic Info We Pick Up

A couple of weeks ago I read for a woman – I’m going to call her “Sharlene” and she has given me permission to tell you this story.

At the end of our session, Sharlene told me that for a long time, she’d been having precognitive dreams (dreams which reveal the future to her.)  And not necessarily very nice ones that came true.  They were usually very nightmarish – like murders, bombs and abductions. Then the next morning she’d often wake up to the news of the specific murder/abduction/bombs she dreamt about.   Only the people closest to her knew about this gift she had, and she would ring her sister to tell her about the dreams she’d had as a kind of validation when, within 24-48 hours of the dream, it would come true.

Sharlene mentioned that frustratingly, all the dreams EXCEPT one seemed to be random and there was nothing she could do to help anyone with the information that she got.

She told me about the only dream she’d had which she thought was an exception.

I think it’s hard to put a dream into words as dreams are composed of feelings, sounds and sensations, with energetic subtexts that you can sense, even in the telling.  But here is what she told me:

In this dream, she met a wonderful man.  There was a specific look and feel about him. They had been walking and talking and were in a pub and there had been fireworks they had watched. In the dream, he told her that he had a very specific role within the Canadian Olympics, which I won’t reveal here for privacy reasons.  Then she heard his friend call to him, and he had to leave her.

She had been touched by the dream and felt that he had wonderful energy.

Intrigued by the dream, shortly afterwards she did some research to see if this man might exist.  She did a Google search for the professional role he had had in the Olympics and found him on the internet.  It seems that in real life, he existed.  He had the professional role in the event he said he had in the dream.  Then she found his name, saw his photo, recognized him and his energy.  Then she saw he was dead – he had died mysteriously before the Olympics, before he saw the fruits of his labour and had left behind a family.

    Sharlene asked me –

Why would she have this dream if it didn’t mean something?  What was she supposed to do with the information?

She had never had any interest in the Olympics or heard of this man before.  He wasn’t exactly famous.  He was an ordinary person.

It reminded me of the TV show Medium (which I used to love) where Allison Dubois agonizes over the information she’s been given, that she often can’t do anything about because it’s not specific enough, or it’s too late.

I listened back to the recording of the session with Sharlene and listened to myself trying to explain why she’d had this dream. I think the real answer was – I don’t know.

The fact is, some of us, like Sharlene, are really tuned in – to the collective consciousness, to the realm of the dead, to what’s about to happen in the world.

I believe that the spirit world is a huge place teeming with souls, with stories, with love and joy, with agendas, with things they occasionally need us to do.  And if we tune into that (even accidentally), we can get overwhelmed or hit over the head with something irrelevant.  I used to have faces of what seemed like real people with identities pop into my mind with messages that meant nothing to me or to anyone I knew.  It just seemed like they were passing through.  Eventually, I tuned out from those souls, real or not.

It is possible to set the intention for the phenomenon to disappear – and it does.  You have to want it to, though.

When should we make it our business?

The same afternoon that I did a reading for Sharlene, I had a nap.  I usually ‘log off’ after a reading, but I can’t have done it properly this time. I lay down on the sofa, went to sleep and dreamt of the man she told me about.  He showed me his child and the things he wanted to do with his child when she was growing up, but would miss out on.  He asked me to publish his name and his story on my website in case someone found it.  I felt like he really wanted to reach his family in some way and he wasn’t going to move on unless I did this.  I felt a lot of pressure but I love helping souls out – dead ones and living ones – so I said I would.

I woke up and wrote back to Sharlene, who gave me the go-ahead to publish her story and even the details of this man.

Then in the next couple of days, I felt the presence of this soul – who it seems, was also a very persistent and determined soul when in a body – pester me.  At the same time, I decided it was too private a story to publish on the internet and wasn’t appropriate to do so.  I trusted my gut.

Sharlene and I both searched online for his wife but we both wondered what we were going to tell her if we did find her.  Sharlene had had information and details from a drawing of a woman that the man showed her in the dream, but nothing concrete that she knew constituted evidence that this spirit had visited her.

Then I realized it wasn’t the right thing to do.  I told him no, and called on the spiritual Third Order (the spiritual group that escorts deceased spirits to the appropriate astral plane after death) to help him cross over if that was in his highest good.  I didn’t hear from him after that.

I’m not sure if Sharlene learned something different from me from this experience, but two things I personally took from it, that I wanted to share with readers in case there is anyone out there who’s ever had a similar experience:

    1. We don’t always get information for a reason

The onus isn’t always on us to take the information and assume that we’ve been given it for a reason.  Sometimes if we are sensitive (or were born that way), we’re accidentally tuned into the ‘bad things happening in the world’ channel or the ‘dead people’ channel or the ‘earthbound souls’ channel or the ‘what people we walk past in the street are feeling today’ channel.  Sometimes, no matter how intriguing an experience, it’s OK to shrug it off and forget it.  We don’t need to do other souls’ work, unless we want to.

    2. Just because a spirit (even one with wonderful energy) wants us to do something, doesn’t mean we should

I always used to have such reverence for souls who were not in a body (perhaps because I used to be Christian.)  Now I know they are human souls, just like us – deceased spirits are human souls, with human foibles.  They shouldn’t invade our space or our minds unless we give them permission, living or dead.  The deceased guy wasn’t concerned about how that article would be received by anyone who knew him.  He just wanted to try it out and he seemed desperate and he was going to pester. God bless him. I thought he had wonderful energy too.

What about you?  Have you ever had an experience like the one above, or got information you didn’t understand?  Did you later understand it?

  • My Code of Ethics for Readings and Healing Sessions

My Code of Ethics for Readings and Healing Sessions

Recently I wrote a code of ethics for my sessions. I wanted to explain my code of ethics here and give more details.

Unlike doctors, psychologists and mental health workers, there is no professional body that psychics or spiritual healers can belong to which says to clients that they take their role seriously.  So I created my own code of ethics here, which I’ll explain in more detail.

Plus, there are the horror stories.  I hear them from clients, from other psychics and it seems they are the reason why psychics generally have a bad reputation with some people.  Perhaps it’s one of the reasons why some people don’t like the word ‘psychic’.  I want to improve that if I can.

I’ve written about some of those horror stories here on my website.

    Horror stories like:

1.“A psychic told me I was disconnected from source and a negative soul.  I felt depressed for a whole week before I discovered your article on negative souls and realized it might not be true for me after all.”

    2. “A psychic is offering to remove a very damaging curse someone cast on me, for $500.  Should I take them up on this?  Do you see any curses in my energy?”

    3. “A psychic told me I was going to die early on in my life.  Can you please check this for me?”

I will just say I have made mistakes in the past. I’ve done a few things that now make me blush because they were so obviously unhelpful for clients or communicated in a way that wasn’t helpful. You learn through making mistakes and you self-correct (hopefully). So I am by no means perfect.

But the thing about all this is that sometimes, people who come for psychic readings are in a vulnerable place.  I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.  I’ve been vulnerable in my spiritual search and I’ve been burned.  That’s why I created this code for myself as a practitioner. And I decided to publish it here to spark discussion among those who do the same kind of work as me. Do you feel the same? Do you disagree?

    Why Bother With Ethics?

I think it can be a powerful statement in the as-yet very unregulated profession of psychic readings and spiritual healing.

    My Statement of Ethics:

    1. A client’s trust is precious and I will always keep everything you tell me confidential.

    2. I will never tell you about something negative (like an issue in your energy body or from your past) unless I have the tools to heal it with you there and then, or can refer you immediately to someone who can.  I believe that pointing out an issue or something negative is pointless and can cause distress unless it is followed by a resolution.

Have you ever been told about something negative in your energy field and then the practitioner has blithely said they can’t help you with it?  I’ve been in that position and it’s actually quite scary. It’s like an architect saying ‘I think your house is going to fall down sometime soon, but I can’t help you to stop it from happening.’ I was once told by a psychic that in a parallel lifetime, I was generating some very negative karma for myself through some irresponsible acts, but there was nothing we could do – I’d just have to resolve it in time. It was supposed to be a healing session, but it only created distress. I felt guilty and sad about it for three days. Then I decided to believe it might not be true for me. Now I only let very trusted healers take a look at my aura. For the same reason, I no longer talk in terms of negative attaching entities that run programs on people.

    3. I do not believe in ‘negative souls’/dark souls/‘black magicians’ or whatever you want to call them.  I will not tell you that you or anyone else is a negative or dark soul because I think it is a ridiculous and harmful idea to tell someone they are not connected to Source or God or whatever you want to call it.  I have never had someone with truly malicious intent book a reading with me – ever. I know you have a connection to source.

I am not naive enough to think that there are no negative people in the world.  But I sincerely doubt that any of them get a psychic reading wanting information on how they can express their soul gifts more fully or improve their relationships.  I find it unacceptable to tell a client that they are disconnected from source/God and are draining those around them as a result, because I’ve seen the upset it causes.

    4. I do not make psychic predictions because I believe it can undermine your personal and spiritual power to consciously choose the course of your life and can even have you putting your life on hold, waiting for the future to happen.  We can explore what taking certain options will do to different areas of your life and aura, but I won’t give you concrete predictions of where you’re going, as if it is outside of your control.

I have received psychic predictions from other psychics.  One told me I was going to marry my ex-boyfriend who was highly abusive at the time.  I panicked at the thought of spending the rest of my life with a man who didn’t appreciate me and promptly chucked him.  Other psychic predictions have kept me in a place where I sat around waiting for life to happen to me.  I was disappointed because nothing happened.  Psychic predictions have meant I wasted my time, so I personally won’t do them for others.

    5. If you book a reading and I come to the conclusion at the start of a reading (or beforehand) that I cannot help you, I will refund you.  I am skilled in some things – I can help you become more aware of your soul gifts, I can do cord-cutting and I can do aura readings.  But if I get the sense it is not in your highest interests to get a session with me, I will refund your money and suggest another practitioner or course of action.  If when I tune into you, I sense that you have booked the wrong kind of session (i.e. the session you’ve booked won’t help you), I will give you my recommendations for what kind of session to have instead.

I know that ethics are subjective and mine are shaped by my past experiences.

  • Quick Pendulum Dowsing Instructions

    Quick Pendulum Dowsing Instructions

I give a complete set of dowsing instructions in my Intuitive Awakening Course. But if you would like the quick (and free!) version, below is a set of instructions for pendulum dowsing that some readers might find useful.

I have been working with a pendulum for a few years now and I love it. Pendulum dowsing is a great way to get answers and guidance from spirit because it is so specific.  You can get specific yes/no answers or even percentages.

But there is more to pendulum dowsing than simply whipping out a pendulum and letting it swing.  That’s why I’ve provided these dowsing instructions – I get lots of people telling me they don’t bother with dowsing because they get contradictory answers all the time. That might be because you didn’t program your pendulum properly.

To do it properly and to get accurate answers, use the following instructions:

    1. Choose the Right Pendulum

I’ve got some tips for choosing the right pendulum here.

    2. Clear the Pendulum

Once you have found your pendulum, you will need to clear it.  This means you remove any unwanted energetic residues which are still present in the pendulum.  All objects absorb energy from their environment and the chances are you do not know where your pendulum was made or where it has been.

Here’s how you do this: place the pendulum in a pot plant overnight and make sure it is covered with soil.  You could also put the pendulum outside in the soil.  Alternatively, you can run the pendulum under hot water and then under cold water alternately, and visualize the pendulum becoming clearer energetically as you do this.  Keep running it under water until you get the sense it is clear again.

    3. Program the Pendulum

Next, you will need to attune your pendulum to your Higher self.  This ensures that the answers that come through your pendulum come from your Higher self and not your subconscious mind or emotional body.  We want answers to come from your Higher self because it sees much further than your subconscious mind or emotional body.

    Do the following:

    1. Take three deep breaths.

    2. Then call on an Archangel or an Ascended Master, and ask them to be present. Then say the following:

“I ask that this pendulum relay answers from my Higher self/spirit at all times, unless I request otherwise.  I also ask that all information be in truth and accuracy and 100% aligned with my highest good and the highest good of all.”

    3. Now hold your pendulum out.  Just relax your hand and ask the pendulum, “Show me a yes” and just allow the pendulum to swing.  It may swing from forwards and backwards or side to side.  It may go in a clockwise circle or in a counter-clockwise circle.  When you see what your pendulum does in response to a ‘yes’, write it down and say “Thank you” aloud.

Next ask the pendulum, “Show me a no”. Observe what the pendulum does in response.  It will move in a different way compared to when you asked for a ‘yes’.  When you write down what it does, say “Thank you”.

Now ask the pendulum, “Show me a ‘maybe’/’undecided” and observe what the pendulum does in response. Once you have your ‘maybe’, say “Thank you”.

Now your pendulum is ready to use!

    How does Pendulum Dowsing Work?

This set of instructions wouldn’t be complete without an understanding of how dowsing actually works.  You might be wondering why we have to call on an Archangel or even involve your Higher self.  When you begin by connecting your pendulum to your Higher self, what happens is that the answers go from your Higher self, to your unconscious mind (which makes tiny movements in your wrist and hand to make the pendulum swing) and then to your conscious mind, when it sees which way the pendulum is swinging.  So, when you use a pendulum, you are moving it unconsciously.  Spirits do not move the pendulum for you.  It is a spiritual thing (in that it comes from the spirit in you), but not a ‘paranormal’ thing, like a ouija board (which I don’t recommend you use, by the way!)

So, those are the dowsing instructions (short version), to start you off if you’re a beginner. As I mentioned, there is also a longer and more complete version in my Intuitive Awakening Course (with suggested questions to ask.)

PS. Just a note that if you are going to dowse with a pendulum, I also recommend learning a technique for clearing and repelling earthbound spirits, as these spirits can sometimes come through pendulums. There is a reliable method provided for doing this, in my book, The Empath’s Toolkit.

  • Cord-Cutting – Client Experiences

    Cord-Cutting – Client Experiences

The other day I got a testimonial from a client. It was the first client testimonial that I’ve had for the cord-cutting service I offer so it was great to get it.

You can read it on this page: cord-cutting testimonials.

I’ve done hundreds of cord-cutting sessions to date and I have to say that I’m very happy to find something is so effective and helpful to clients (and to myself).

Although clients usually get beneficial results from the session, people are sometimes understandably reluctant to send testimonials, simply because a cord-cutting session is so private (a bit like psychotherapy.)

So I wanted to create this space, to give those who have had a cord-cutting session a chance to talk in the comments section about this modality – how it changed things for them, the results of their session, what they’d say to other people who are thinking of getting a session, and how they feel about this modality. It can be anonymous too.

Please note, this is not about me and you don’t have to write an ode to my healing skills (the healing is mostly down to the Ascended Masters & Archangels that we call in at the beginning of a healing session.)

This is just a space for you to send any feedback on cord-cutting sessions, so future clients know what to expect and so that this modality can stop being the best-kept secret in the world of spiritual and emotional healing.

If you have had a relationship with an addict, have been abused in some way or had a very difficult relationship with one of your parents, cord-cutting can help heal that. It can also help to improve other relationships that haven’t been quite as painful or toxic.

As I said, cord-cutting has been a huge part of my healing journey. I’ve tried many healing modalities and cord-cutting is the one that has helped me most. And when I find something this helpful to so many people, including myself, I feel like a woman on a mission.

As one client (who has had multiple sessions) recently said to me “Wow. Skeptics are really missing out, aren’t they?” I agree.

    Here’s Charlotte’s testimonial:

“Thank you so much for the cord-cutting session we had together. As you know, I had never had a reading or cord-cutting session before and although I was open-minded and hopeful the cord-cutting technique would benefit me, I never could have imagined the extent to which it would impact on my life. Since the session, my relationship with my mum completely changed for the better – I no longer look to her for approval or her opinion, and for the first time in my life, I have started to stand up to her when she treats me like a child.

As a result, we are developing a completely new relationship which is based on mutual respect and reflects the fact that we are both grown adults with our own views and opinions. It’s amazing to me that behaviours and feelings I had had my whole life simply disappeared immediately after we had the session. And the accuracy with which you were able to describe those behavioural patterns is astonishing…Thank you so much for enabling me to achieve something that I never thought would be possible.”

If you have any comments about your experiences with this healing modality, or want to leave a testimonial specifically from your sessions with me, please leave a reply below!
