How to Use Neville Goddard’s “I Remember When” Technique for Manifesting

In this article, I’m going to go into one of the techniques that I used a lot a few years ago when I was very unwell, to manifest a recovery from various health issues.

It is Neville Goddard’s “I remember when” technique.

I am going to share what it is, how to do it and my particular way of doing it that helped me to manifest a full recovery from my health issues.

First of all, just some quick info on Neville Goddard and who he was…

Neville Goddard was a spiritual teacher and mystic who coined the term the ‘Law of Assumption’. The Law of Assumption states that what we assume and believe to be true in our subconscious mind, is what will manifest for us externally. And if we are experiencing something undesirable in our 3D reality, we can work to alter our subconscious mind and impress upon it a change in the situation and in ourselves. In this way, we can manifest our desires into the world — as within, so without.

A bit of background info on this technique and my results with it

Around 2022, I went through a period where I was pretty unwell. I had lupus — I was incredibly tired and I had brain fog and trouble working. I had a variety of other symptoms such as joint pain and light sensitivity (I could only go out after dark.) I worked an average of 30 mins per day in 2022 due to the fatigue.

I remember at one point I’d been manifesting change in my health and although I’d seen a big change with some of the other health issues, the lupus unfortunately didn’t seem to be getting any better.

I decided one day to use a particular technique called the “I remember when” technique that I’d read about in a Neville Goddard lecture from 1968 and I practised it several times per day over a period of about two weeks. The bridge of incidents that brought me a full recovery unfolded speedily after that.

I look back on that time forcing myself to go into “I remember when” every hour or so of the day on the hour, as the point where things really started to turn around with the lupus.

Now  I’m going to share more about what this method is, the benefits of it and some instructions for using it. I’m also going to share a variant of this technique that I came up with, that I used to manifest changes in my health.

What is the “I remember when” technique?

This is a technique where you imagine you are in the future, with your desired outcome, and you’re remembering a time when you did not have that desired outcome but wanted it.

How to use this technique:

1. Identify some unwanted situation or circumstance in your life, for example maybe you are not making enough money to live on

2. Come up with the opposite of that circumstance for example, from poor to prosperous

3. Then fill in this statement:

I remember when I was __________ and now I’m __________.

Examples:

I remember when I was not making enough money and now I have more than enough.

I remember when I was sick and now I’m thriving and full of energy.

I remember when I felt down and depressed, and now I’m enjoying my life.

I remember when I was unemployed, and now I have a wonderful job.

I remember when I was single and now I’m engaged to my soulmate.

I remember when I was exhausted and couldn’t afford to go on holiday, and now I am about to go on a wonderful luxury holiday.

Remember to juice up your statements and don’t make them dry or underwhelming. For example, “I remember when I didn’t have enough money and now I do”. You want a juicier statement than that, that elicits more joy and excitement, like “I remember when I was not making enough money and now I have more than enough!”

My variant on this technique

When I was in the process of manifesting better health what I would do every hour (upon the hour) for several hours per day, was go into my spare room where my yoga mat was and lie down on it. I would work out what kind of energy I was wanting to bring in with my desired intention. It was often vitality (because I was so tired), power (because I felt powerless to create change) or freedom (so I could live my life and go outside during the day, which I couldn’t do at the time due to the lupus light sensitivity).

I would ask my guides to show me how far my desired timeline was from where I am currently. Then I would ask the self from that desired timeline, to integrate and merge her energy body with mine. I’d feel what it feels like to be her. Then I’d sometimes bring the desired energy into my energy body (such as vitality or freedom). I’d really try to feel that energy that I desired, and then I’d say to myself, I remember when I was sick and tired, and now I am full of energy and free to live my life as I choose.

2-3 years later, this is the life I am now living (energetic and free) without any medications.

I found it too hard to just say “I remember when I was sick and now I’m well” and really feel it (the feelings weren’t coming and the energetic jump felt too big), so this was my process to help me get there.

It is worth pointing out that I did this technique on the hour for several hours per day for about two weeks, and I feel it really accelerated the bridge of incidents for me. You do not have to be so gung ho about it (I was because I was in a really unwanted health situation that was causing me pain) but you should ideally practise this technique daily.

The benefits of this technique

When we’re manifesting a desired outcome, in order to draw that outcome in, we need to become the person who has that desire already. We need to be thinking FROM the point of view of the person who has that desire. However, many conscious creators who are manifesting a desired outcome think of their desire. They visualise themselves having it but from the standpoint of not currently having it. They may even feel lack when visualising or affirming, subconsciously thinking about how they don’t have what they want and they feel thwarted.

This technique can help to fix that.

What if I can’t imagine being the person who has my desire in the future?

I would say this is an advanced technique and it works best for those who are not that far away from their desired outcome on an energetic level. If you have only just started manifesting your desired outcome and you have a lot of resistance, you might find this technique doesn’t work that well for you and you could come back to it at a later date.

Any resistance should lessen over time as you use manifesting techniques. (If it does not lessen over several months of practising techniques regularly, you might want to consider the possibility of a karmic complex).
