“Hi Anna,
I’ve been drawn to an Evolutionary Manifesting™ reading, but there’s something that’s been weighing on me about manifestation in general.
I often find myself second-guessing my desires – wondering if they’re actually what I want or if I’m just chasing things because they seem impressive to others or because I think I ‘should’ want them. Sometimes I’ll be manifesting something and realise I feel disconnected from it, like I’m going through the motions.
I’m curious whether your readings can help identify when I’m pursuing something that’s not actually aligned, or if there are ways to recognise this pattern myself?
Thanks for any insight you can offer.”

Hi Dana,
Having an active karmic complex can under some circumstances give a person desires that aren’t right for them*.
I’m going to give some examples of that in this article and explain how you can tell when an intention you’re manifesting is entangled with a karmic complex and therefore something that will move you further away from your highest timeline, as a soul.
(For those who are new to this idea of karmic complexes, here is a definition:
A karmic complex is a wound from a past life that is present in the energy bodies, created by trauma. It has negative attitudes, beliefs, thoughts and feelings attached to it.
One of the features of a karmic complex is that it is carried over from one lifetime to the next, until it is resolved. With a few exceptions, our energetic bodies are not cleaned or deleted from one lifetime to the next — instead we take the negative preoccupations and unresolved traumas we had from our most recent past life and we carry them into our next life.
(This belief is central to both Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism, and is also widely accepted in the field of past life regression.)
Karmic complexes cause unwanted situations in our lives, and they also cause compulsive behaviours.
There are varying severities with these karmic complexes — some are so severe that they can bring about grave misfortunes. Others are relatively minor.)
So, as mentioned, having a karmic complex active in our soul can cause us to aim for goals that don’t fit our soul’s path.
The most common example I have seen of this kind of scenario, is people who are trying to manifest an ex back into their life.
I have experience working with people in this situation and the vast majority of the time, the situation does not turn out the way the person had originally hoped (despite all of their manifesting). This is because painful relationships reflect a karmic complex and often the situation has been recurring over many lifetimes. The soul is seeking resolution to this drama.
The resolution the soul is often seeking is not usually to reunite with the ex, but to close the door on the entire affair and seek healing, so that it does not recur in future lifetimes. (There may be exceptions to this, but often this is what is going on on the soul level when someone is attempting to manifest a reconnection with an ex.)
Once the complex is fully resolved, almost never does the person want to manifest their ex back into their life.
Trying to manifest large sums of money
Another common example where someone is trying to manifest something that isn’t right for them on the soul level is when people try to manifest a large sum of money in order to solve a big problem in their life.
For example: maybe a man works in a highly lucrative job/industry that he hates. He has been working in this job for years, and his family lives a certain lifestyle that he perceives needs to be maintained. Maybe this person has a big mortgage, his wife stays at home, and his children go to private school. He does not want to create disruption for his children by taking them out of private school and moving to a downsized home, but it’s also unsustainable for him keep working in the industry he is in.
He can’t see any way out except to keep on working in this industry that he hates. He perceives that the only other option available to him is to manifest a huge sum of money, so that he can retire.
Since this person is suffering in a situation he feels he cannot change or exit, this is likely to be a manifestation of a karmic complex. As an example of what that can look like: maybe this is a soul who had a trauma in a past life revolving around money and resources. Perhaps in a past life he didn’t have enough money to support his family and his wife left and married someone richer. He does not want this situation to repeat and so he’s killing himself providing for a lifestyle that cannot be sustained long term.
If he were to resolve the complex, new opportunities would open up for him, or the prospect of downsizing his life and his family’s needs would seem more doable.
Trying to manifest a very large sum of money to solve a problem is often (but not always) a sign that you’re out of alignment with your highest path and purpose, and in a situation that isn’t right for you. (People who have karmic complexes active find it much harder to align with their highest path and purpose in all life areas.)
When I was living in NZ and I was manifesting a house purchase that didn’t involve being a mortgage slave for 25 years, since the average house price at the time in NZ was nearly 1 million dollars, I needed to manifest a lot of money. I worked on manifesting that but the big money I was manifesting never came through. What came through instead was greater business success, an increasingly higher cost of living that absorbed all my income, and a realisation that this was not a sustainable way for me to live anymore, and then a move overseas.
I was out of vibrational alignment with my location in NZ and I needed a change — not necessarily a massive windfall.
Manifesting an intention that is out of alignment with your highest path and purpose (like me trying to manifest a large sum of money so I could buy a house in NZ) is not going to feel aligned. You will feel ‘blah’ about such an intention or it feel will heavy.
Whereas intentions that are more aligned will usually feel light and have positive energies associated with them, like excitement or joy.
So, in summary, even if you bring an intention to an Evolutionary Manifesting reading that isn’t right for you, Spirit will guide us to the karmic complex that is causing you to set this unsuitable intention, either directly or indirectly. And resolving karmic complexes can help you to align with your highest path and purpose, and know what it is you are really seeking to manifest into this life.
*A final note on intentions being ‘right’ for you and this concept of ‘highest path and purpose’
We do not come into this life as blank slates. We come in with a curriculum of lessons to learn, and with soul contracts to fulfil with other souls. And sometimes we come in with karmic complexes to move beyond and transcend.
The intentions that your soul wishes to manifest will be a reflection of all of the above.
For example, if you are learning a life lesson of self-love, you may have a relationship in your youth that teaches you to value yourself more, perhaps through mistreatment. You resolve not to experience that again, and from that moment onwards, you attract healthier relationships. You learned something important about self-love and integrated that energy into your soul a little more. There are 88 life lessons that a soul can learn in this way, and they are learned through experiences which change us a little on the soul level, and allow us to integrate certain energetic qualities more fully into our being, as a result, just as in this example of self-love.
The intentions that we desire to manifest will also reflect what our soul is here to do and experience. Every intention or desire has a specific energy behind it, that our soul wants us to bring into our life further. This is something I look into as part of my Evolutionary Manifesting readings because it is helpful to know: what does this desire or intention really mean to this person’s soul? What is it about on a deeper level? For example, maybe this money intention is about experiencing more freedom or this new relationship intention is about experiencing more stability.
The energetic qualities that we are looking to bring into our lives come from the soul, and are interconnected with our soul contracts and life lessons. This is what I mean when I refer to ‘highest path and purpose’ and intentions being ‘right for us’.
