How to Change Your Future Lifetimes and Manifest Your Desires by Releasing Your Bad Karma & Generating More Good

This is a very long article that contains realisations that I have had about karma, my soul’s purpose and the wider environment we’re all living in.

In this article I’m going to share what I now understand about karma and releasing it, and I’ll set out a framework for:

1. Stepping into your purpose as a lightworker and making whatever contribution you feel you are here to make

2. Changing the course of your future, including your future lifetimes

3. Getting exactly what you want in life

To start with, a bit of background on how I got to writing this article…

Someone who studied with me as an Akashic Record reader recently told me that they’d come across an unusual case in their work — they had read for a client who had had no previous earthly lifetimes. This was the client’s first lifetime here on Earth.

(When we do Akashic Record readings for people, we research the soul’s history, including how many earthly lifetimes the soul has had.)

“That’s interesting.” I thought. But I filed it away in my brain. I hadn’t ever come across a soul who was a “first timer” here on earth. (The people I have personally read for over the last 16 years have all had between 30-200 previous earthly lifetimes.)

A few weeks later, I read a book by noted hypnotherapist, author and teacher Dolores Cannon.

The book was: ‘Three Waves of Volunteers & The New Earth

(In case you haven’t heard of Dolores Cannon (1931-2014), she was a past life regressionist and hypnotherapist for 50 years who regressed thousands of people. She found that when she regressed people, they regressed not only to past lives, but also to life between lifetimes and life in other places or on other planets. She wrote many books sharing her experiences with clients and the knowledge she amassed about the nature and purpose of life here on Earth.)

Her book ‘Three Waves of Volunteers & The New Earth’ was about an interesting phenomenon that Dolores noticed at one point in her career.

Dolores began to notice that in her regression work, she would sometimes come across clients who had had no previous lifetimes on earth. The client under hypnosis with no previous earthly lives would always explain that they were here on Earth to be a “volunteer”. Here’s the blurb from the book which explains what this was all about:

In 1945 when the atomic bombs were dropped in WWII, our “protectors” and “watchers” in outer space saw that Earth was on a collision course with disaster. The prime directive of non-interference prevented them from taking any action, but then they came up with a brilliant plan to save Earth and assist her in her ascension. They couldn’t interfere from the “outside”, but maybe they could influence from the “inside”. So the call went out for volunteers to come and help. “Earth is in trouble – who wants to volunteer?”

The native souls living on Earth were too caught up on the wheel of karma. The only hope was to ask for pure souls to come who had never been trapped on the karmic cycle.

Dolores in her hypnosis work has discovered three waves of these volunteers. Some have come direct from the “Source” and have never lived in any type of physical body before. Others have lived as space beings on other planets or other dimensions. Because all memory is erased upon entry to the Earth dimension, they do not remember their assignment. Thus these beautiful souls have a difficult time adjusting to our chaotic world. These souls have a vital role to play as they help all of the rest of us ascend to the New Earth.

Fascinating stuff.

I also believe that almost all of the souls who get a reading with me are starseed souls who are also here partly to help planet earth ascend in its consciousness to the point where we are incapable of using nuclear energy to destroy ourselves and this planet.

This doesn’t mean that we are all here with some grand purpose to be a leader, a healer, or a helper. But we can help to tip earth towards positivity (rather than total destruction) by living in positive energy, living our lives in a loving way and being a good person. Or even simply enjoying our lives, living them to the fullest, and spreading that joie de vivre to others by osmosis. Doing this raises the vibration of the planet in a subtle way.

But if you see the bolded statement above, some (but not all) of us are too caught up on the wheel of karma to be able to do this effectively or fully. Some souls are trapped in old stories. This is what differentiates us from these waves of new volunteers.

In this article, I’m going to talk about how this bad karma can be released so that we can fully reach our potential as lightworkers, not just so we can have what we want in life but also so that we can do what we came here to do.

(Releasing old karma is a process I’ve been going through intensively in the last 2 years so I know a lot about it.)

First of all, let’s look at what karma is

Dolores Cannon’s definition of karma is the baggage and garbage that we amass through many lifetimes.

It’s quite simply negativity.

Bad karma is essentially our accumulated stories and conditioning over many lifetimes. It’s our limiting stories about ourselves, about life and the world.

These stories govern what kind of family situation and environment we choose to incarnate into. Then our family or environment programs us in ways that reflect our karma, or our soul’s limiting stories.

Then we go forth into adult life attracting experiences based on our conditioning (which is our karma.)

Then we find ourselves in situations we don’t want.

Many starseed souls here are stuck in their karmic stories and complexes and cannot seem to move beyond them. They repeat the same mistakes, traumas, experiences and stories lifetime after lifetime. And unless an effort is made to change, they will be here again in 100 years time doing the same stuff they did last time.

What’s your karmic story?

If you think you have a karmic complex or story, but you’re unsure, try this exercise:

Think of something big or significant that you’d really like to achieve in your life, and you’ve made efforts to in the past, but you haven’t been able to achieve it so far.

Maybe it’s a greater level of financial abundance.

Maybe it’s a romantic relationship.

Maybe it’s the release of a health condition.

Perhaps it’s a successful business.

Maybe it’s all of these.

The reasons why you haven’t created these things yet is your karma; your soul’s negative stories that it’s amassed over many lives.

When I was doing Law of Assumption strategy sessions (aka manifesting work) with people (which are now on pause) as I gained experience working with people in this way, I started to explore why the client hadn’t yet created what they wanted. Every single time, I bumped up against peoples’ limiting karmic stories. These stories were not limited to this present lifetime but repeated over many lifetimes.

For example, if you are trapped by a circumstance in this lifetime and you feel powerless about that circumstance (for example, maybe you feel trapped in a bad relationship and you won’t exit it even though you have that choice) you can be sure that your most recent past lives have had this element of being trapped and powerless.

Maybe in a past life you were financially trapped by a benefactor, maybe you were a prostitute who needed to survive and was trapped by that kind of work, or maybe you spent a lifetime imprisoned.

I believe that our desires in this lifetime are a means to set us free from our old karma

Our desires are given to us in this life as an invitation to release our old karma and no longer be bound by it.

For example, if you desire financial freedom, that is your soul inviting you to get out of the energy of survival, lack and fear and instead live from a place of security and freedom. How you do that is you release bad karma and amass good karma which can help you to reach that goal. When you do this, you not only achieve your desire but you ascend in your consciousness and the entire ecosystem of this planet benefits from your ascension in consciousness.

Your desires (the ones you can’t seem to achieve right now) are sacred pointers to where your soul needs you to grow and change. If you don’t accept the desire and move towards manifesting it, you’ll come back here again in your next lifetime with exactly the same desire and the same blocks.

How I’ve released my bad karma over the last 2 years and started amassing more good karma

2 years ago I was disabled with a serious dis-ease and the prognosis long term wasn’t that great. 10-20% who had the dis-ease died from it. Most people with this illness also stopped working after a while and according to surveys, many patients lose their important relationships (probably because it isn’t easy being around someone who has no energy, is depressed, and in constant pain).

I felt that the choice I was presented with in that moment was very binary.

I had 2 choices — one was life and vitality, and the other was decline.

Which was I going to choose? I knew I could only choose life. But in order to get there, I had to completely transform myself.

I didn’t know how to do it so I set my intention and let my guides and higher self direct my path.

I now see that the dis-ease I was faced with, was actually an accumulation of bad karma.

By bad karma, I don’t mean that I did a bunch of stuff in past lives that was bad and needed to be punished.

It meant that on the soul level, I was carrying a lot of accumulated stories, baggage and garbage. I came into this life with a bunch of patterns that were limiting and therefore, the environment I grew up in and the conditioning and trauma I experienced reflected that.

Then I went forth into my adult life repeating that conditioning — feeling certain bad feelings and thinking bad thoughts (not all of the time, but often). This was essentially past life and present life trauma following me around and making me sick on multiple levels.

In order to heal myself I had to release that bad karma and start amassing more good karma.

This is how I manifested good health again and became asymptomatic without drugs.

On a spiritual level, I now see that in the last couple of years I’ve been on an intensive project of burning off bad karma. I thought I was healing an illness and releasing depression, but the illness was just an external manifestation of what was going on in my soul and my karmic debts.

As I’ve been through this process of releasing, my life has changed profoundly. Old negative situations that repeated time and again, have left my life, and people who brought stress into my life or were no longer a good fit for the new me, also exited. My beliefs and view on the world have shifted a lot.

I now feel myself to be in the position of having released much bad karma (I can’t say I’ve released all of it — I think that would be hubris to declare so) and a natural focus towards the positive has taken hold. I’m finally amassing good karma without being so trapped by the bad. I’ve changed the trajectory of my life and future lifetimes.

How karma manifests itself in your life

Back to Dolores Cannon’s idea that many lightworkers are so trapped on the wheel of karma that they’ve become ineffective…

Obviously this was true for me in that I could no longer work at one point. And although my business has had some degree of success for the last 16 years, I was also affected by low energy in those 16 years, which held me back.

Some (but not all) of my clients and students are stuck on this wheel of karma, too.

Some of the people I’ve worked with are not stuck in situations they wish to transcend. But many are.

I’ve trained lightworkers who although their dearest wish is to create a business using what they’ve learned, they just won’t because something invisible is holding them back.

Some of my clients have had a dream or a mission but bad health limits them.

I have worked with lots of people who are stuck in various situations they feel powerless to move beyond.

Some of us are so busy grappling with our own life problems that we live from a low vibrational place and can’t fully contribute what we’re here to contribute.

Here are the signs you’ve got bad karma

  • You had a bad childhood that still affects you
  • You’re ill or have a physical ailment that limits or affects your life (although note that illness isn’t an expression of bad karma in 100% of cases)
  • You’re in pain, physically, emotionally or spiritually
  • You’re depressed
  • You’re struggling financially
  • You can’t get what you want out of life and you’re frustrated
  • You have bad relationships that cause you pain
  • You’re lonely
  • You feel you aren’t fulfilling your purpose or reaching your potential
  • You’re not enjoying your life that much

Signs you aren’t saddled with bad karma

  • You have good relationships
  • You feel connected to the rest of humanity
  • You’re engaged in meaningful or enjoyable work
  • You’re enjoying your life
  • You have enough money to live on
  • You’re in good health.

This isn’t a binary thing — some of us have a little bad karma and some have lots.

Next for those of you who recognise you’re on the karmic wheel to some degree, I’m going to talk about how to release your bad karma and start amassing good. There’s a lot of methods in here for doing it but you don’t have to do it all — you could just choose one thing.

If you have a life that is terrible and you want to turn it around quickly, you will need to do multiple things to burn off your bad karma and amass the good. You can make a radical transformation in 1-2 years if you put a lot of work in.

Note that many of the ideas in this article can be found in most major religions and spiritual traditions. There’s not a lot that I am going to tell you that can’t be found elsewhere, although I hope I am putting it into a more practical and holistic context for you.

Let’s start with how to release your bad karma and stop amassing it

1. Release your negative stories about the people in your life, to set them free

I recently watched a fascinating account of a near death experience where a woman died during anaphylaxis and was given spiritual insights from God during her time on the ‘other side’, and then returned to her body.

One of the things she said that God told her was that our negative thoughts and ideas about people go out to them and harm them.

For example, maybe you believe your mother is a terrible person based on the fact that she abused you in childhood.

Every time you identify her as being that way, that thought goes out to her and she stays a jerk or becomes even more of a jerk.

This is something the Christian mystic and manifesting teacher Neville Goddard taught — that there are infinite versions of the people around us. We get the one we focus on, based on who we believe that person is.

If you see the best in people, you will get it.

If you see the worst in people, you will get that, too.

If you’re stuck in a negative story about someone, revise it. Forgive them. Send them love. Do a loving kindness meditation that focuses on them. When thoughts of them come up as “he’s selfish” or “she’s lazy” counter them. Focus on a version of them that isn’t that way — it does exist.

If they’re abusive, don’t stick around or be in their presence. Don’t put up with bad behaviour.

But realise the sickness originates in you, not in them.

If you want to change a person’s behaviour, you need to change you. Neville Goddard said “there is nothing to change but self.”

You can also use the Ho’oponopono prayer to help with this. The Hawaiian therapist Huw Len healed a ward full of mentally ill criminals by using this Ho’oponopono prayer. He believed the sickness was in him and how he was seeing them, and not in them.

Some may believe this is victim blaming, but I truly and profoundly believe this to be true. I’ve radically changed how I’ve seen a couple of people in my life and seen astonishing transformations.

So, persisting in negative stories about other people is one way to create bad karma.

Forgiving and opening up to see a new version of that person (or just letting them go) is how you can release the bad karma.

If you’d like to see the video of the NDE which talks about this concept, you can watch it here. (and the segment about changing thoughts about other people is at 11:45.)

2. Have a meditation practice

Various spiritual traditions know that meditation helps us to release bad karma to some degree because meditation helps to control the mind and the negative thoughts we send out about others and about situations.

Dr Joe Dispenza’s meditations will burn off bad karma if you do them consistently. So will mindfulness meditation or other guided meditations.

The key is consistency. It won’t help you if you do it once a week. You would need to do it at least several times per week.

3. Releasing negative emotions and thoughts in general

One of the most powerful ways to release bad karma and stop generating it is to release negative thoughts and emotions.

A spiritual teacher I follow (A.C. Winklier) teaches a method to do this which seems to be based on the Sedona Method.

Releasing is a lot simpler than I thought it would be.

All it involves is recognising that we are pure consciousness. Our consciousness is like the sky. Fearful or negative thoughts and feelings are like clouds that obscure the sky. They come from our concepts of our self and the world, but after they pass, the consciousness remains unaffected. Consciousness is our higher self. It is not pain, or anger or fear. So, releasing negative thoughts and feelings is about identifying as the consciousness as you move through your day and observing the thoughts and feelings that come up, and offering them no resistance.

AC Winklier provides instructions on doing this here.

If you practise it regularly it can be life changing.

Byron Katie’s ‘The Work’ or the Sedona Method can do something similar.

Just a note that if you’re very bogged down with negative emotions and thoughts, you may want to try points 4 and 5 below before using this method, otherwise you may just be spiritual bypassing your past traumas.

4. Revise

This is an extremely powerful method of burning off old, negative karma that comes from Neville Goddard’s teachings. I highly recommend it. You can read about it here.

5. Other healing methods

Tons of therapeutic methods can release old karma to some degree. Some are very effective and others only help a little. Below I’ve listed some that I know can be effective in this endeavour. Note that not everyone benefits from the same modalities so you will need to use your intuition to guide you towards the one(s) that are right for you.

  • Cord cutting is one that can reduce bad karma in relationships
  • Past life regression can be helpful if you feel you have a complex that originates in a past life – if you choose to do a past life regression, make sure that you pick a regression method that involves healing (many regression methods are just about exploration, which is not helpful for releasing past life karma.) I really like the DMP method of past life regression and find it to be the most cathartic form of regression for past life traumas.
  • Brandon Bay’s The Journey was recommended to me often in the last 2 years by people who used this healing method to create big shifts in their life, although I’ve never used it
  • Plant medicine and psychedelics, such as Ayuhuasca, may be helpful in unravelling karmic complexes
  • If you have a diagnosed medical condition to heal, the free Coherence Healings offered by the students of Dr Joe Dispenza could bring about a lot of healing (I’ve had multiple remote Coherence Healing sessions and highly recommend them)
  • Ancestral healing – if your negative patterns have their origins in your family line (which they often do), some kind of ancestral healing could be helpful. I did this type of work but I can’t make any recommendations as the healing came spontaneously through events that occurred in my life
  • Internal Family Systems/parts work
  • Some people find EMDR very helpful for traumatic events that occurred in their life. I have done around 40 sessions of EMDR and I found them very helpful in uncovering my subconscious beliefs that were formed in early childhood. But aside from that aspect, I didn’t find this method as healing as others I’ve used
  • Body-centred psychotherapy, such as Somatic Experiencing and Hakomi

6. Physical detoxification

This may be surprising but my guides have told me that physical detoxification is one way to help you burn off bad karma and manifest fewer negative experiences in life.

Detox methods include things such as:

  • Saunas
  • Sweating through vigorous exercise or hot yoga
  • Epsom salt baths
  • Water fasting
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Coffee enemas

We live in a world that now has approximately 79,000 synthetic chemicals, almost all of them untested for safety. Our bodies and detoxification systems were never meant to process this toxic burden. People working in the conventional medicine model say things like “detoxifying is a load of rubbish because our bodies have their own detox systems that work just fine, such as the liver and kidneys.” Yes, we have our own detox systems but these were just fine when we lived in the pre-industrial age. Now studies show that these systems are overloaded and we all have a significant body burden.

I’ve learned there’s a complex interplay between physical toxins and bad karma. If you have bad karma to burn off, you’re also likely to be physically toxic.

When you are in fight and flight (in survival mode, and engaging in negative energies…aka stuck in bad karma) your detox systems don’t function efficiently. In this state, your body prioritises survival over processing toxins and so it stores toxins instead of releasing them. I believe those physical toxins are then a physical reflection of what you were dealing with at the time you stored them. So, for example maybe you were dealing with chronic stress about your job for months and you amassed toxicity because you were exposed to mould at the time and instead of detoxing it efficiently, you stored those mycotoxins. Those mycotoxins are the physical manifestation of your past stress, and they poison you both with their physical poison and the emotional poison of why you stored them in the first place.

Physical toxins are the physical reflection of the spiritual and emotional energies and stresses that caused us to store the toxins.

If you take a sauna and sweat a lot or do a long fast, you may notice that you let go of something emotionally when you do those things. That’s the release of negativity and bad karma that happens when you detox. I did two long water fasts (a 12 day fast and a 7 day fast) last year and found that both came with profound emotional releases and growth.

Many religious and spiritual traditions know this and this is partly why they recommend fasting or sweat lodges.

Note that if you’re affected by bad karma, you’ll be much more affected by chemical toxins and you should work to minimise your exposure. If you’re unaffected by it, your detox systems will work more efficiently.

So, those are the ways to burn off bad karma.

How to amass good karma

If you have no bad karma, amassing the good simply brings more positivity and good experiences your way.

You can also help to reduce your bad karma and create a life you love by amassing good karma. (Although if you are steeped in bad karma, this can feel challenging to do.) But by amassing good karma, it can also give you the resources to reduce bad karma.

Here are the ways to amass good karma:

1. Be of service

2. Care about others’ lives and reduce suffering as much as possible

3. Wish everyone the best, even your enemies

4. Forgive

5. Be loving towards others and yourself

6. Practise gratitude and notice your blessings daily

7. Take in the good and make a daily practice out of amplifying positive moments in your day

8. SATS/positive visualisation

9. Prayer – thank God/Source/Spirit for your life, and ask for help from the Divine, your guides or your angels when you need it

10. Judge yourself as little as possible

11. Uplift others with your words and give genuine compliments

12. If someone is behaving badly with you, don’t stoop to their level. Avoid lashing out and harmful deeds towards others based on your wounds. Instead process your own pain on your own, in a way that doesn’t hurt others

13. Treat the earth with respect. Consume less and dispose of things wisely

14. The Buddhist loving kindness meditation

15. Develop your connection to your spiritual helpers so that they can guide you towards more positive actions and choices (I have a course which teaches you how to do this)

16. Don’t ever hunt animals for fun or kill as a sport. Make sure you consume any animals you kill, and ideally eat all of the animal (nose to tail eating).

17. If you eat animal foods, buy them as humanely raised as you possibly can afford and avoid conventionally raised meat and fish

18. Pay your debts. Only take the opportunity to go bankrupt if you have no other option, and then forgive yourself.

In conclusion…

The reason why we’re seeing so much increase in distress (1 in 4 Americans is ‘mentally ill’ and takes psychiatric medications) and disease (60% of Americans have a chronic disease) in recent years is because Western culture is sick. We’re living in ways that perpetuate negativity and bad karma, and minimise the generating of the good. We’re taking in toxic chemicals, we’re stressed, our culture teaches us that we’re separate from one another (we’re not) and our economic policies and political divisions reflect this. And we’re told that our salvation is to be found in scientism, conventional medicine and a pill bottle (it isn’t.)

This negativity has its roots in our soul’s past, on a collective level. Releasing bad karma and generating good is how you get what you want out of life, fulfil your soul’s purpose AND raise the vibration of the planet, all at the same time.

FAQ

Is releasing bad karma hard work?

Releasing bad karma is hard work if you are in the kind of situation I was when I started out, where there’s lots of things you don’t enjoy about your life, or things haven’t been going well for you in a long time.

If there’s a lot about your life that you don’t enjoy, it’s like you’re a big ship and you need to turn that around in another direction. That’s going to take time and sustained effort.

If you are enjoying your life and feel it’s going in a good direction, it’s not hard work and you can just focus on the generating good karma aspects.

Is this the same as manifesting?

Yes, burning off bad karma and generating good is essentially what enables you to manifest a better outcome in your life. But this article is a more holistic look at how you get there and how that intersects with your soul’s purpose and the wider world.

In addition, when manifesting, a distinction needs to be drawn between releasing bad karma and generating the good. Many methods of manifestation (especially the Law of Attraction) focus only on generating the good, which doesn’t cut the mustard for people who have big life problems.

Many conscious creators are trying to manifest positive outcomes but it isn’t working because they’re dealing with bad karma. They’re doing the techniques that amass good karma such as SATS, but the bad karma hinders them. They need to focus on burning off the bad karma first.

Can burning off my bad karma stop me from incarnating here again?

Many lightworkers have said to me “I don’t want to come back here ever again”. If you don’t want to come back, burning off your bad karma may be one way to make that more likely, although I haven’t explored this in depth myself in my channelling work so I can’t say I know for certain.

Update April 2024: I now believe that long water fasting (21 days +), as explored in this article, combined with revising your childhood, is one of the most powerful ways to unravel karmic complexes and get you closer to getting off the karmic wheel. There is a reason that water fasting is practised in all major religions, but what many people do not know is that the longer the fast, the more likely it is that your karmic complexes will unravel on you (fasting for a day or 2 isn’t going to create much change, but fasting for longer periods does.) The nice thing about that is that it not only gets you closer to stepping off the karmic wheel, but it also makes it easier to manifest whatever it is you desire.
