A Spiritual Awakening is when you wake up to the fact that you are a spiritual being having a human experience. You start to ask questions like: “What is the meaning of my life?” and “What is my soul’s purpose for this lifetime?”
Following a spiritual awakening, it isn’t uncommon to feel like you want to make drastic changes, like quit your job, because your old life no longer seems to fit, and you are waking up to your soul’s purpose, which may not be reflected in your current job.
So what do you do about this?
In this article I’m going cover this topic of how to make your life on the outside reflect the new spiritual awareness that your spiritual awakening has brought into your life.
But first, let’s go into signs of spiritual awakenings and how they occur:
A spiritual awakening usually follows some sort of traumatic event, such as a significant loss or bereavement. It is very common for people to have a spiritual awakening after the loss of a child or partner, or following the onset of a life-changing illness, for example.
Signs that you are going through a spiritual awakening…
…Include your clair senses exploding and opening up. You may start ‘seeing’ things in your mind’s eye; maybe you start dreaming a lot more and having precognitive dreams. During a spiritual awakening, your senses are heightened, and you experience more synchronicities and deja vu. You may also see repeated numbers, hear guidance clairaudiently, and feel quite isolated and disillusioned with life as you go through it all.
So should you quit your job following a spiritual awakening?
My recommendation would be not to make any big life changes following a spiritual awakening, unless you already have enough money to retire on, or unless you’re in a very toxic working situation.
Here’s why:
Spiritual awakenings can be very destabilising. You need to be able to lean on your routines and current activities (and I’m imagining, your income) in order to feel stable and grounded. Your life will gain some stability again later, but it can take a while.
After a spiritual awakening, it’s like a mirror or window (in terms of how see yourself and the world) has been smashed into little pieces, and it takes a while to collect all the little pieces and build a new one.
It’s common for spiritual awakenings to affect and destabilise the root chakra, so you will need to work on strengthening your root chakra following a spiritual awakening. To do that, try the following:
- Spend time with your pets or family of origin (if you enjoy doing that)
- Eat home-cooked food from fresh ingredients, wherever possible
- Keep to your routines. Try to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day
- Get mental health support or treatment for trauma if you have been through something traumatic recently, which caused your awakening
- Spend time in nature
- Walk barefoot outside on the beach or on grass
- Don’t make massive life changes unless you can help it.
My best advice for those who have had a spiritual awakening and who do not feel that they are living their purpose, is to research and decide on what kind of work is a good match for your soul’s purpose. When you have decided on that, find a job in that area. If you’re not qualified to work in that area, train in something part time, and then either switch jobs or start your own business.
A spiritual awakening is often linked to what you are meant to be doing in this lifetime, so many who go through an awakening, and who feel their intuitive gifts have opened up, often feel drawn to working in the fields of healing, spiritual development or spiritual counselling/giving spiritual readings.
If you feel this is your soul purpose, and you’re looking to express your healing or intuitive gifts in your life further, I recommend you check out my Akashic Record Reading Program (which teaches you to do professional-level readings for clients) and/or my Intuitive Healing Program (which teaches you to do healing sessions with clients). The latter is currently closed but will re-open later this year, and it’s possible to get on the wait list now.
Following a spiritual awakening, it’s always a good idea to take things slow. Start taking baby steps in the direction of where you want to go. Remember to be kind to yourself at this time.
