25 Random Things About Me – 2009 Version

February 12th 2009: A Facebook friend tagged me in a note where he wrote 25 random facts about himself. I thought it’d be fun to share it here on my blog.

The Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

    1. I was brought up in Cheshire, in the UK, but my parents moved to New Zealand when I was 19. My mum lives in Blenheim and my dad lives in Christchurch. I visit New Zealand once a year.

    2. I plan to leave London and move to Australia this summer for a year (if they’ll have me), to be nearer to close friends and family.

    3. I studied French and Spanish at Merton College, Oxford. I loved translation but hated writing essays about literature.

    4. I have a passion for Hispanic culture. I adore Flamenco dancing and Spanish music. My favourite film maker is Pedro Almodovar. My favourite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende.

    5. Over the last five years, I have been something of a nomad and have not spent more than twelve months in one place. I have lived in Dijon (France), Salamanca (Spain) Vielha (Spanish Pyrenees), Oxford, Chester, Bristol and London. I keep being told by parental figures that ‘a rolling stone gathers no moss’.

    6. I am the second oldest of five children – I have four brothers and no sisters.

    7. I am at my best when teaching someone or learning something. I love taking workshops, reading books and learning about new techniques. I’d spend a lot more money on learning if I could.

    8. I love taking risks and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

    9. I value my freedom and independence. I love working from home, having my own business and being accountable to no-one but myself.

    10. I trained as a professional intuitive in summer 2007. I found my first professional teacher after I dreamed that she was giving me a reading. I remember all the details of the dream reading and was amazed when some of them came true when I had my actual reading.

    11. My most embarrassing moment was when I mistook the Merton college ‘warden’ (principle), Professor Dame Jessica Rawson for a caretaker (janitor) because I didn’t understand that at Merton College, warden means principle, not janitor. I asked her to help me to knock down a toilet door to free my trapped friend who was stuck in a toilet cubicle in our college accommodation (next door to her residence), because I thought she was the janitor. When we freed him, my friend was very surprised to see that it was our principle who was helping me knock down the toilet door and that I thought she was the caretaker. The toilet door rumour became a Merton college legend and I got laughed at a lot.

    12. I often have precognitive dreams which reveal my future to me.

    13. I became interested in personal development after reading the blogs of Steve Pavlina and Erin Pavlina. Erin Pavlina told me in a reading about two years ago that I’d be doing psychic readings in the future.

    14. Some of my friends and family think I’m crazy because I’m doing psychic work. My best friend doesn’t really believe in what I do.

    15. I am deathly afraid of scorpions even though I’ve never seen a real one.

    16. On the Myers-Briggs test, I got INFJ. It’s true that I am an introvert. I value my own space and can go for days and days without seeing anyone and enjoy my own company just fine. But I love having close friends. I have a naughty and very playful side which only tends to come out with those I know really well.

    17. I am Aquarius, with Libra rising and Taurus moon.

    18. I am only 5ft tall and have size 2 and a half feet.

    19. I love warmth – beaches, saunas, hot countries. I intend to leave the UK for good and relocate to a warmer country in the next few years. Winter time makes me want to hibernate.

    20. My favourite spiritual author and teacher is Byron Katie.

    21. My current housemate told me that when she saw my picture on my website, she didn’t want to move in with me because she thought I seemed cold and scary! I sometimes get emails from men telling me it looks very sexy. I nearly replaced it when my website had a recent facelift but decided against it! (Edit 2/6/2011: In case you’re wondering where the picture of the ‘scary but sexy’ woman has gone, the website has since been updated!)

    22. I am torn between the action and movement of the city and the beauty and tranquility of the countryside. My dream would be to live in the countryside in a place surrounded by trees, about one hour away from a major city.

    23. I have been a night owl for as long as I can remember, much to the annoyance of those who live with me.

    24. I am an intellectual and emotional empath. I can’t watch death or painful scenes in movies without feeling awful myself afterwards. In healing sessions, I can sometimes feel the physical aches and pains of my client in my body. My intellectual empathy is helpful for teaching because I know exactly what my student understands and what they don’t, without being told.

    25. My StrengthsFinder test results showed that my strengths are: relator, individualization, responsibility, strategic and learner.

  • See the Clues that Point to Your Life Purpose

See the Clues that Point to Your Life Purpose

I first began searching for my life purpose exactly 14 years ago when I found an article online on how to discover your life purpose.

It involved an interesting exercise in which you write out anything that comes into your head about what your purpose might be, until you write something that makes you cry. And the part you write that makes you cry is your purpose.

Upon doing this exercise, I discovered that my life purpose was something really vague and corny-sounding, like:

“To help others to be happy and to succeed”

(More wordy and long than that, but summed up, that was the essence of it.)

But I think I cried more out of depression though than out of joy at having admitted to myself what my purpose was. How the heck was I going to translate this vague purpose of helping people into something I could do that paid the bills and made me happy? And actually made an impact on the lives of other people?

That was in January 2007. At that time, I was reading a lot of personal development material about living a life that’s congruent with your values and finding work you love.  All of it seemed really irrelevant to me in a practical sense because I didn’t believe it was possible to do work I loved, yet it appealed to me intuitively, because I was so bored of my work and dreamed of something better.

I had been working as an English teacher in Dijon, France for about four months and I was already fed up. I knew that I did not want to teach languages for the rest of my life, yet the other jobs I’d tried were even worse, so teaching was the lesser of many evils, as far as I was concerned.

Then six months later, I trained as an Akashic Record reader, which put me on a path of greater purpose, and in the end stopped teaching languages. Through my new path of healing and intuitive work, I learned a lot about the nature of soul purpose and how it manifests in our lives.

And interestingly, many of the clients who get soul purpose readings from me are in the same position I was in 14 years ago, in that they know they want to help people but have no idea where to go from there because they think they lack the skills to do it.  To move past this, you have to understand that…

Life purpose is not just about helping people

Consciously serving and helping others is definitely a part of a light worker’s purpose, but it’s a mistake to think this is your whole life’s purpose.  We’re not here to save the world from itself.

As I explained in my article How to Find Your Calling As A Lightworker – your purpose is not a mission of doing, but of being. On a spiritual level, your purpose is simply to be here; to be incarnated here; to be yourself; to allow your soul’s deepest urges and desires and values to manifest and take shape in your physical reality. Your purpose is to learn and evolve. And to teach others, directly and indirectly just by being here and being you.

Because life purpose is a mission of ‘being’, living your soul purpose happens by knowing yourself really well, knowing who you are and what you love being, so that you can consciously express and be yourself more fully. Know thyself, it says on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. If you want to live a purposeful life, you need to know consciously and notice what values are important to you; what you love to be and do; what you’re interested in and what your natural strengths and gifts are. All of these point to your purpose.

How to notice the clues which point to your purpose

I realized recently, while I was doing a reading, that life purpose seems to be expressed on three different levels.

If you’re not yet aware of your purpose, examining these three areas or levels of your life separately could provide some clues as to what your purpose is, where you’re expressing it already and how you can start expressing it more consciously.

    Level 1: Soul

Life purpose, on the soul level, is a collection of themes, energies and values that are important to you. These are like the deepest urges and dearest values of your soul. Some themes I’ve encountered (just to give you an idea) are compassion, truth, peace, harmony, freedom, tolerance, integrity, exploration, curiosity, power and wholeness. Energetically, those themes and energies will be expressed in all areas of life. You’ll bring these into your career and relationships, into your whole way of being with others. There will usually be two or three which are really important in your life. This is the ‘being’ part of your purpose.

Questions to ask yourself to find out more about your purpose on this level:

What is my soul’s deepest desire?

What do I value and hold dear above all other things?

Other ways in which you can find out more about you and your purpose on a soul-level:

    1. Get an astrological chart drawn up

This can also tell you a lot about the energies you’re here to bring as a spirit. I would recommend getting a birth chart drawn up if you’re interested in learning more (they do them free at Cafe Astrology.) I’m not saying that you’ll get a free birth chart drawn up and then straight away find your life’s purpose. But it can definitely give you some clues. Watch for the themes which may come up again and again and elsewhere or themes which particularly resonate with you. For example, I have my ascendant in Libra, which means I love being the harmonizer in relationships and keeping everyone happy. I do that both in my work and in relationships. Creating harmony is a big theme that comes up as part of my purpose. This also shows in my Akashic Record as being so.

You really have to be observant and track the themes that come up again and again using tools such as astrology and numerology (Numerology, particularly your soul urge number can also be interesting to find out more about your soul’s desires and purpose.)

Something that comes up more than twice or three times is probably a major theme of your life purpose that you may feel drawn to expressing in a career. Something that comes up once or twice may be expressed in a more passive way, in how you are with people and in personal relationships.

    2. Get an Akashic Record Reading

Mining the Akashic Records for information about your purpose on a soul-level can be useful. When I’m looking at someone’s purpose in the Akashic Records, I look at their origins as a soul (which gives many clues about what they’re here to bring and teach others) and also the soul-level strengths your soul has chosen to bring into this incarnation (which are a BIG indicator of your purpose). Looking at what you’ve been doing between lifetimes is really interesting and helpful. And your career should ideally utilize many if not all of the soul-level gifts which come up as significant in your Akashic Record.

You can get an Akashic Record reading here and a mini Akashic reading here.

    Level 2: Personality

The second level upon which your life purpose manifests is the level of the personality and this is reflected in your strengths, likes, and interests. This is the slightly more grounded and practical expression of the soul-level energies that are dear to you – some examples are authentic self-expression through writing or speaking, healing, relating to and empathizing with others or helping others to solve their problems. This is anything you like to do and are really good at.

To find out more about your purpose as reflected in your personality and strengths:

    1. Take the StrengthsFinder test – StrengthsFinder Book 2.0

I recently did a reading for a guy who was making applications to University. What his guides told him about his purpose in his career reading perfectly matched and perfectly utilized the strengths that came up in his Strengths Finder results. Of course, it did. The fact is, we choose our strengths BEFORE we even incarnate. So if you’re wanting to know more about what you consciously chose to express in this incarnation, consider taking the StrengthsFinder test or another test like it, to point you in the direction of your life purpose.

It can be helpful to take other personality tests (such as the Myers-Briggs test) to see if similar themes come up. My Myers-Briggs result came up as INFP (introverted intuitive feeling perceiving) which is the idealist or sometimes called the healer. This isn’t surprising as a big part of my purpose is healing work.

    2. Dig for compliments

There is another very simple way to become aware of your strengths – ask those around you what they appreciate about you and what they think you’re good at. This may sound like a less modest option, but the results can be surprising and very revealing. I discovered this last year when I was attending a business workshop. To prepare for it, I had to send a letter to those around me saying something like:

“Please tell me what you think my unique ability is – i.e. anything really distinctive about me that you appreciate and can count on me for”.

The responses were surprising to me, because almost everyone highlighted a particular aspect of my personality and a strength which I didn’t realize I had.

We often take our strengths for granted because we’re so used to having them and using them, so we forget how valuable they can be to others. Anything we can bring to others, which we’re already doing and enjoy doing, is a very passive aspect of our purpose, but good to become conscious of nevertheless, so you can use it more consciously and actively.

    Level 3: Activities/Medium

The final level upon which your purpose is expressed is in the physical. This is your ‘medium’.

The physical is where those strengths, values, likes and interests can be translated into a medium – actual career activities that you can perform, like being a physicist, working in a shelter for abandoned animals, computer programming, journalism or translating.

Your life purpose is not this medium, it’s just an expression of it. In fact, you will have quite a few mediums – you will certainly have personal relationships as a medium for your purpose, you will have a career outlet (or more than one) for your purpose, perhaps parenthood will be a medium for your purpose as well. The mediums may change at certain times in your life, and new mediums will appear throughout your life for you to express yourself.

I have learned that living a life that’s aligned with your purpose is a constant optimization process of tweaking your mediums. For instance, in the past at times I’ve become aware that I’m not enjoying my work as much as I used to. In those cases, I’d work out what I’m resenting doing, such as doing a particular type of reading, and eliminate it, so I can spend more time doing readings/activities I do enjoy. Even if you’ve found your ideal career or medium for your purpose, there is usually something you can do optimize your enjoyment of your work.

How to take your purpose and translate it into a career

If you’re in a position where you know yourself well but have no clue where to go from here in terms of expressing your purpose and finding a medium, know that you don’t have to ‘do’ anything. Simply intend to attract opportunities to use your gifts and strengths more fully. Value and appreciate them. Manifest and seek out opportunities to do what you enjoy. From that place of appreciation and enjoyment, it is much easier to attract a career path which allows you to express your purpose fully. I’ve seen it happen this way for myself and for many others.

  • Angels Defined & How They Can Help You

Angels Defined & How They Can Help You

Over the years, I’ve benefited greatly from the relationship I have with my angels and I want to pass on what I’ve learned about the angelic realm over time so that you too can raise your vibration with the help of the angels. In this article, I’m going to share some practical exercises you can use to call on your angels.

Are You Calling on the Angels?

A lot of people are open to the idea of communicating with their guides and see the benefits of doing this. But not as many people bother calling on the angels. I had one client this week who calls on his guides but finds angels too ‘new-age’ for him.

It’s funny that my client thought that working with angels was too ‘new-age’, because angels are anything but ‘new-age’! If anything, they are ‘old-age’! They are featured in the Bible, in ancient/primitive literature and art of all kinds. They have been around helping humanity, literally since time began.

But don’t think that because they’re featured in the Bible, they’re about religion. Angels assist all beings, without discrimination, whether you’re a Muslim, Jew, Christian or spiritual.

    What Are Angels Exactly?

Angels are beings who are on a path of evolution that is entirely different from the human path of evolution. There are many different types of angel as there are types of human soul. Just to give you an idea of the variety — we all have Guardian Angels who protect us and guide us, angels that bring peace to sacred sites, there are angels of marriage who assist couples, there are Earth angels who protect natural landscapes and there are angels of healing.

Angels specialize in embodying energies like love, peace, compassion and healing. They then bring these special energies to those of us incarnated on Earth so that we may access them when our vibration is very low, in times of sorrow, grief and pain.

The angels also help us to dispel more minor negativity in our mind and spirit. They heal us, they protect us, they eliminate our fears and give us guidance (in much the same way as guides do.)

Is There Much of a Difference Between Guides and Angels?

    Yes, there is.

Guides are on the same path of evolution as human souls — most of them have experienced an Earthly incarnation before. Our guides are here to nudge us gently onto the paths that bring us the most learning and freedom, and they are spiritual helpers. By contrast, angels don’t guide. Your Guardian Angels (you often have two or three of these around you) fulfil many roles — they protect you, help to keep you safe, help you to heal and make you feel loved and cared for.

    How Exactly Can Angels Help?

    Angels can help you to:

Feel good, feel protected, feel loved, feel comforted, remember who you are on the soul level, create positive life circumstances, heal yourself, heal others, take the paths which align with your highest path and purpose and raise your vibration so that you can contribute more of your positive energies to this funny old place which is Planet Earth. However, there is one condition to working with the angels:

They will only help you if you’re perfect and good, all the time.

Nah, I’m joking. The condition is that you must ask the angels to come into your life and help you. You have to do this because the angels will not make themselves known and heard by you, until you request it. It’s the rule of free will.

In 2006 I first read one of Doreen Virtue’s books about the angelic realm and in it she reminds the reader that angels must be called on. So, I did this and was amazed at what happened. First of all, I met an angel in my dream spontaneously. I dreamed that I was waiting in line to buy a ticket at the local coach station. There was a woman right in front of me, with her back to me. In the dream, she turned around and looked me in the eye and said ‘you go in front of me’ and smiled. Looking into her eyes, it was clear that she was an angel. A wave of emotion swept me and I felt very nurtured and loved. The eyes of the angel were kind and gentle but also the kind of gaze that burns when you look at it. I woke up deeply moved from my dream and that feeling lasted for hours.

Shortly after that, I began to see angel lights around me and around others. Angel lights look like orbs of coloured lights. You often see them moving or in the corner of your eye. Some people believe that angel lights are figments of our imagination. I don’t believe this because I never saw angel lights before in my life before I asked the angels to come into my life. I believe in angels, as I believe in all manifestations of Spirit. At really low times in my life I’ve seen my bedroom full of sparkling, coloured lights, dancing around, after having called on the Archangels. At times like those I’ve cried in gratitude at the playfulness and love of the angels.

How Can I Work with My Guardian Angels Straight Away?

You don’t need to be psychic to do this (although psychic ability helps). Just call on your angels. Ask them to come into your life. Ask them to come into your dreams. Ask them to help you clear any resistance to manifesting your desires. Ask them to heal any issues from the past. Ask them to watch over your loved ones. Ask them to protect you. (Below I list some exercises to connect with your angels.) Ask, ask, ask.

How Will I Know Angels Are Around Me?

If you’re clairsentient, you’ll be naturally gifted in communicating with the angelic realm because angels communicate with us very much through our emotional body and clairsentients are usually very sensitive, emotionally. You know you’re in the presence of an angel when a feeling of unearthly love sweeps you, or when you feel deeply cared for or moved for no reason.

Exercises to Connect With the Angels

This exercise allows you to enhance the lives of others by sending loving gifts to them and it requires your visual imagination:

Close your eyes and imagine your Guardian Angel in front of you (you can imagine your angel however you like). Imagine a beautiful box in front of you and feel the love, gratitude, appreciation, strength, peace which you desire to pass on to your recipient. Place that energy into the box and tie it up with a beautiful bow. Give it to the angel with instructions to pass it on to your desired person. This is especially effective if you need to forgive someone or want someone to forgive you.

This may sound like a silly exercise, but it works. An older member of our family was nursing her terminally ill daughter this year and throughout all those times I sent love and strength on a daily basis (or when I remembered). She felt it because she kept telling me that her spirits would lift for no reason and she would feel comforted and loved, in spite of what was happening. In the end, I told her what I was doing and she said she felt the presence of the angels around her at those times.

Meet Your Angels in a Dream

If you’ve never experienced the presence of an angel and don’t know what it feels like, ask the angels to come to you in a dream. If you’re feeling very discouraged or depressed, before you go to sleep, ask the angels to heal and uplift you in the night. Again, I’ve had great results from doing this. I even dreamed of being in a place which looked like a hospital (but didn’t feel like one, thankfully), surrounded by angelic beings. After that dream, I woken up refreshed, renewed and feeling good, despite going to bed feeling downcast.

Give Your Cares to an Angel

If you’re in pain or grief and you need some serious healing, imagine putting all your cares in a big sack or bag and hand it to an angel, then watch the angel take your cares to the light of God, where the negativity is transmuted to love and returned to you in the same bag. Feel the love energy you get in return from the angel.

‘White Light’ Your Possessions and Ask for Angelic Protection

Call on Archangel Michael if you’re in fear and in need of some protection. When I’m on the London underground or walking in the street, I imagine a bubble of angelic protection around me. I also imagine Archangel Michael putting a white light around my handbag to protect it. You can also ask the angels to protect your home when you’re gone by white lighting it.

  • Can Anna Predict My Future?

    Can Anna Predict My Future?

This is something I get asked often by clients and the answer is maybe. Here’s why:

Whether or not I can predict your future depends on what you’re asking me to predict.

In this article, I explain why psychics can predict some things but not others.

    How Predictions Work

To make a prediction, a psychic will consciously (or not so consciously) tune into your ‘chart’ for this lifetime. Your ‘chart’ looks like a massive web of pathways that are available to you. You literally spend your life journeying through this web of possibilities, taking pathway after pathway. There are two types of ‘intersection’ on this web, as one pathway ends and a new one begins – these are called choice points and destiny points.

    Choice Points

There are thousands of choice points in your ‘web’ of possibilities. When we’re at a choice point intersection, in the physical we have to make a decision about something which will impact on our future. At first glance, it may not seem like a choice that will make a difference. It may simply be whether or not to buy a certain book, or whether to go on a workshop, or whether to say yes to someone’s invitation. On this energetic ‘web’ of possibilities, there are five pathways of possibility leading towards the choice point and five pathways of possibility leading away from a choice point. We can take whichever path we want. The path we choose will lead us to another choice point, and when we take one of those paths, it will lead us to another choice point and so it goes on. The series of pathways that we take collectively make up the unique path that we choose for our life. But there are different pathways available to us as well, if we want them.

    Destiny Points

The other kind of intersection to be found on this web of possibilities is the destiny point. You usually have between 10 and 30 destiny points on your web of possibilities. These are the major, predestined events of your life; the events you chose to experience before you even incarnate. Not all of these events are 100% predestined, however – there is an element of flexibility involved. For example, you could choose to have a relationship with a particular soul during your lifetime, but it may not be predestined how long the relationship lasts or when you will meet.

The first destiny point on your web of possibilities is always your birth and the last destiny point will always be your death. The others may relate to certain relationships you will have in your lifetime (as the example above) they could relate to work that you will do, the conception and birth of children (this is usually predestined for women), health challenges you experience, chance meetings you will have, etc.

    What Can Psychics Accurately Predict?

With this in mind, most psychics can accurately predict the following:

    • What your destiny points are in your life – i.e. the major events and relationships
    • If a client is currently at a choice point, a good psychic can usually tell what the outcome will be if they take such-and-such a path. This is useful because if you’re going down a dead end (ie. a pathway that does not align with your desired outcome or your highest path and purpose) a psychic can let you know and save you time and energy.

    What I Cannot Predict

    • If you’re asking me to predict a major life event and there’s no destiny point present for it, then I can’t make an accurate prediction. There are so many choice point paths for you to take along the way – and your future shifts and changes with each path you take
    • It’s also challenging to be able to predict exact details of destiny points – like timings, since these are often not set in stone.

    When Predictions Are Unhelpful

I personally shy away from making predictions about future events, because often it’s not in our best interests to receive a prediction. There are a few reasons for this:

    1. Predictions spoil the surprise

I am constantly amazed by the unpredictable and exciting ways in which life plays out. On the few occasions that a psychic has given me information about how things are going to play out, instead of it being exciting, it has felt like an anti-climax – a bit like ‘game over’ on a computer game. Or knowing what your Christmas presents are before you’ve unwrapped them – makes the unwrapping process less exciting, doesn’t it?

    2. Predictions can encourage us to give away our power

The desire for predictions and the reassurance that predictions bring, is based on a worldview (one which I do not ascribe to) which says ‘We’re not in control of our future, therefore we need to know what’s coming up’.

Sometimes a psychic with this worldview can, in good faith, give someone a prediction, believing it’s 100% certain and it turns out it’s just one of the many pathways available to them on their ‘chart’. But that prediction has already narrowed down their view of the choices before them.

And once the client has taken that prediction to heart (maybe because they like the way it sounds), that person can hand themselves over to ‘fate’ and begin to manifest according to the prediction. It can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. That may be all right if it’s something they want to experience, but what if energetically it’s a dead end for them or something they don’t want to experience? It may be a dead end with a lesson contained within it, but it’s still a dead end, which leads me to my next point…

    3. Sometimes our Higher self/Guides might give us false information about the future

‘What?’ I hear you cry! ‘My Higher self would NEVER give me false information!’

That’s what I thought too. I am going to tell you an embarrassing story which illustrates that intuitive information can at times be purposely false.

Late last year, I was in the final phase of my professional intuitive training and learning all about destiny points and choice points. I was also in a relationship with a man who lived in London. (I was living in Spain at the time.) This guy was doing the same spiritual healing training as me and we were both fascinated with the idea of destiny points – a little too fascinated for our own good.

One day, we did a bit of research together into our respective destiny points – we wanted to know which destiny points were in the life area of relationships, health, work, finances, etc. And in the process my ex-boyfriend discovered some information about a destiny point that we shared – he found that one of my destiny points was to have a child. With him. Oh, yes! The timing wasn’t predetermined, but we were to have a child together. Our relationship fell apart soon after that because we believed in the information available in the Akashic Records (we’d seen real-world evidence of it). But our relationship only fell apart after I had left my job in Spain and set up my new healing business, because I thought my future was in London with this guy. Was it in my highest path and purpose to have a baby with this guy? No!

But it WAS in my highest path and purpose to leave Spain, move to London and start my own business. So you can see the motive behind the false prediction. It caused me to leave my teaching job (which I was tired of) and take some big, scary steps towards a new career, which I may not have taken otherwise. That false prediction gave me the illusion of safety which I needed in order to change my life.

In fact, we later found out that the ‘destiny point’ did not exist – he asked our teacher to check it and she found no such destiny point. He hadn’t made the whole thing up, but rather he had been given misinformation about it. The destiny point mysteriously disappeared from our soul records once it had served its purpose.

The moral of this story is: don’t go looking for information about your future unless you can handle it or you’re OK with receiving misinformation if your Higher self happens to see an opportunity to get you back on track to take the paths which ARE in alignment with your highest path and purpose.

I went to work in a hotel in France in the summer of 2001 (when I was 18) with the aim of improving my French. While I was there, I had the strangest dream I’d ever had. This is what happened in the dream:

I was in Paris, outside a locked car which was parked in the street. Inside the car was a baby of African origin. There was no air, water or food in the car and the baby was dying. There were many people around the car – some wanted to rescue the baby, and others were just observing. There was a sad, inevitable atmosphere in the dream – we were waiting for the baby to die and we could not prevent his death.

In the night, I woke up, feeling quite disturbed and haunted by this dream. When I went back to sleep, I dreamt of the same thing. It was so awful that I kept waking up. I tried to sleep a couple more times but each time, I returned to the same dream.

The very last time that I fell asleep, the baby was out of the car and someone was holding him. He died in their arms. After that, I gave up trying to sleep as I did not want to dream about it again.

I went into work really tired that morning and the radio was on, as usual. Literally the very first piece of news that I heard was that a baby of African origin had been found dead in a locked car in Paris – he had been left there overnight. Of course, when I heard that a shiver ran down my spine, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I got goosebumps (OK – maybe not all at the same time, but suffice to say that I was freaked out!)

I thought about this experience a lot over the next few days, and wondered – was it just a dream and a coincidence? Or had I actually been there in Spirit?

If I was of a more skeptical mindset, I would probably have attributed my dream to a coincidence. But instead I concluded that my dream was somehow linked to the actual event. I felt haunted by the dream, in a way that a dream had not haunted me before. I felt some sort of connection to the baby and it felt like it had been a real event.

Prior to that experience, I had never really thought too much about dreams – I had had lots of strange dreams in the past, sure, but I did not pay so much attention to the meaning of them or think they were ‘real’.

    The Real Significance of Dreams

Through my work in the Akashic Records, I have learned that our dreams ARE real experiences which take place on the astral planes. Some dreams we have because we need to learn something from them. Others we don’t need to remember as much.

Here are three common activities that we do when we’re dreaming:

    1. Learning Through Role-Playing

Have you ever had a dream that taught you a real lesson? And when you wake up, something big ‘clicks’ for you? Some of the dreams we get may have a lesson contained within them, that we are meant to remember and take on board.

Here’s an example: if you are someone who is very giving (to a fault) in your daily life, and you need to learn to balance giving with receiving, you could be in a dream situation where you experience the direct negative consequences which can occur as a result of giving too much to others. And when you wake up, you realize that it doesn’t serve you to be the one who’s always giving and never receiving.

Sometimes your Spirit Guides can be involved in this type of ‘role-play’, to help you to learn these lessons. At other times, you may see souls in your dreams whom you do not recognize. These souls are often what we call ‘Dreammasters‘, who serve you by playing parts in your dreams, to help you to learn something. You could be a Dreammaster yourself, especially if you have lots of dreams that don’t make sense.

    2. Consulting with Spirit Guides, Angels and Other Spiritual Teachers

Sometimes people don’t connect with their guides or angels in their daily life because they’re too afraid to open up to the spiritual world. But the most un-scary (and quite common) way that your guides can pass on a message to you is in a dream. However, not all of our dream messages from our guides are always remembered by the conscious mind.

Sometimes guides might show you metaphors within your dreams, and in other dreams, you might have conversations with them. Mine have even played songs to me (in a dream) to give me a certain message. If there is something which I am missing about any aspect of my life that I really ought to be seeing, I know that my guides will come to me in a dream and let me know about it.

This happened several years ago, when I heard from an old school friend of mine that our former Spanish teacher had passed away. I was sad and sorry for his family – he was only in his early sixties. But then shortly after hearing the news, I had a dream in which one of my guides informed me that our teacher wasn’t dead and that it was just a rumour.

I wanted to check, so I wrote to my old German teacher to ask her if she’d heard the same news. She replied to say that she rang the Spanish teacher and he was alive and well – so, it was a rumour, nothing more. That experience really taught me to pay attention when my guides give me a message in a dream!

If you are looking to connect with your Spirit Guides, it can be helpful to set the intention to receive messages from them in your dreams. It’s so easy for your guides to reach you when you’re asleep – they may even have some tips or instructions for you to contact them in your waking hours.

Let’s look at another activity that we can be doing in our sleeping hours…

    3. Helping Other Souls to Cross Over (Third Order Work)

The Third Order is the spiritual order (essentially a group of spirits) which comes for you when you die, to help you to cross over to the other side. Some of us have worked in the Third Order in between our physical incarnations and when that is the case, we often bring our Third Order skills into the physical with us.

Obviously, when you’re in a physical body, you can’t work as a member of the Third Order. But I have read for plenty of people who belong to this spiritual order and a few of them have told me that they often dream of helping earthbound spirits to cross over and find their way back into the light.

Perhaps this was what I was doing in my dream about the African baby. Lately I often dream I’m helping stuck or earthbound souls and the souls that I dream about seem extremely real to me.

(By the way, you can read more about the Third Order here.)

So, voilà – three ways in which dreams can be very, very meaningful. Contrary to what you may have heard, dreams are not always about our subconscious mind trying to make sense of our day – they can also be spiritual.

    A Note on Unpleasant Dreams

Those who have nightmares are often travelling to the negative astrals in their dreams – a pretty unpleasant place to visit. Many who have nightmares actually have a portal way open in their subconscious to the negative astrals.

You can close a portal way to the negative astrals by lighting a candle, sitting quietly and focusing on your breath for a few minutes. Then by reading the following prayer:

“Archangel Michael, please close the portal way in my subconscious, that leads to the negative astrals, for all time, so that it may never be re-opened. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

  • Where Does Your Soul Come From?

Where Does Your Soul Come From?

I have received lots of questions about ‘soul groups of origin’ – namely what are they and how they are relevant, so I thought I’d answer them in a blog post – it is a fairly interesting (albeit wacky) topic in itself.

If you don’t believe that you have a soul, then this information will be of no interest to you at all. However, if you’re reading my blog, I can probably assume you believe you have a soul, that’s to say, a part of you which is timeless – you could call this your Higher self or your soul.

Where does your soul come from?

We all come from Source or the Creator – we are all Source energy in physical bodies. When we’re fresh from Source, we are nurtured and prepared for our very first incarnation. We then choose a place of incarnation.

Some souls choose straight away to incarnate on Earth. But some souls choose to begin their first incarnation in another star system, like Sirius or the Pleiades, just to give a couple of well-known examples. Those who have experienced their first incarnation elsewhere are called star travellers or ‘star seeds’.

Why does your first place of incarnation matter?

All star systems work with different categories of energies. For example, in Andromeda (aka the Mission Realm), they work with very high-vibrational, soothing, peaceful energies – those energies are excellent for witnessing, validating and holding a space for another person, and that is what Mission Realmers are good at doing.

When we choose a certain star system for our first incarnation, we ‘absorb’ the energies of that place and they become a part of who we are on the soul level. Then later, we bring those energies with us into subsequent lifetimes.

So if you experience your first incarnation in Andromeda/the Mission Realm (and you’re a Mission Realmer), you will become imbued to some extent with those peaceful energies and you will express those in all subsequent incarnations, no matter where the incarnation is. You will comfort others with your serenity and ‘all is well’ attitude. And it will be your soul’s mission to contribute those unique energies in situations where they are required.

    Am I a star traveller?

Star travellers are fairly easy to spot. They are quite different from those souls who have only ever experienced Earth incarnations. According to my guides, about 22-23% of the Earth’s population are star travellers.

    Star travellers tend to:

    • Identify as lightworkers – they know on a deep level that they’re here to contribute their special energies and gifts to raise the vibration of Earth and to raise consciousness
    • Feel out-of-place and as if they don’t belong, especially if they’re mainly around Earth souls
    • Often feel dissatisfied with the state of our planet – they know there is a better way, because they’ve experienced and lived it
    • Feel connected to the spiritual realm and motivated in their spiritual development, to some degree or other.

Basically, star travellers are different from Earth souls because they come in with an entirely different perspective (and agenda).

There are over twenty different soul groups. Each group has a collective past which governs their challenges, their Achilles heel and their gifts and strengths. It can be very validating to know why you feel as you do, why you are good at some things and find other aspects a challenge. It’s good to know your strengths so that you can focus on those, instead of beating yourself up for your weaknesses, which so many people do.

The thing about soul groups is that it all sounds really weird and a lot like something from Star Wars. I remember when I had a reading with my teacher a while back, she told me my soul group of origination which is Sirian. Half of me totally identified with the very specific information she gave me about my Sirian identity, and half of me was thinking ‘this woman is telling me which planet I’m from and I’m believing her, I need to get my head checked out by a doctor’. I also thought that lots of people feel out-of-place and as if they don’t belong – some of the information initially seemed too general. Only half of me actually believed that I was a star traveller soul, or even that such a thing existed.

It was only later on, when I started giving readings that I saw that clients identified time and again with their soul group of origination and the traits associated with the soul groups, general and specific. It is an amazing thing to experience, which has truly given me confidence in the veracity of the soul group information that is available to us.

How do we know about the soul groups?

Representatives of the different soul groups have been present on Earth since time began and some people remember where they came from! Plus many of the soul groups have been channelled. More recently (as in, within the last thirty years or so), an American named Arlen Bock channelled some very specific information about soul groups and passed it on to his students who saw certain traits and patterns in the various soul groups that they read for and further expanded on the information.

How can you find out your soul group?

    • Book a reading with someone who can read your Akashic Record.
    • Do some research on the soul groups and then meditate on it. See if you feel a connection to a particular star system (however, be aware that not all of the information you find on the internet about star groups may resonate – it’s up to you to take what resonates and leave what doesn’t!)

Despite my initial scepticism, the topic of soul groups has become my favourite topic to write about and learn about. It’s so fascinating to learn more about the history of the different soul groups on Earth and to see which groups have incarnated when and where in different periods of history. For example, right now the Indigo children who are arriving here in hoards belong to one soul group in particular (the Nihal soul group.)

It’s also interesting to see who the souls are around us. I attract only star travellers into my practice. Around 90% of my clientele comes from one soul group in particular* (the Blueprinters), which is amazing because there are so many different soul groups incarnated here. However, in my personal life, I attract a wide range different soul groups (all star travellers).

Do you know what soul group you belong to? Or have something to add to this? Please leave a comment below!

*Update: 10 years later, I don’t attract as many Blueprinters – my clients come from a variety of star traveller groups.

    How to Develop Clairvoyance

In this article I discuss what clairvoyance is exactly and also how to develop this gift.

Clairvoyance means ‘clear-seeing’. Almost everyone knows what clairvoyance is — it’s the ability to see Spirit through your third eye. Clairvoyants can see energy fields, spirits, symbols and get visual premonitions. Developing clairvoyance isn’t difficult — in this article, I give you some pointers to do this.

Some clairvoyants see things in their mind’s eye (which is like the movie screen that you see inside your mind when you close your eyes) and some can see with their physical eyes. Both are possible, but it’s more common to see in the mind’s eye. Whereas a clairsentient might look at your photo and pick up on your feelings and emotions, a clairvoyant would probably see your aura, the essence of your spirit and Spirit Guides or Guardian Angels around you. When reading a situation, a clairvoyant may see a symbol or a ‘movie-scene’ which is a metaphor for the situation.

Receiving clairvoyant images is one thing, but not all clairvoyants are gifted at interpreting what they see. To interpret a vision or symbol, you need to use your claircognizance or clairaudience as well.

I’ve written articles on the three other major psychic gifts: clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance. The reason why I didn’t write an article about clairvoyance sooner is because it is not really a common psychic gift.

On the other hand, I felt compelled to write about claircognizance and clairsentience because they are so common and the people who have these gifts often do not know that these even constitute psychic gifts which can be developed. By contrast, in my mini readings, I’ve only read for about ten people who have been natural clairvoyants (that’s about ten people out of 350) and most of those people knew about their clairvoyant abilities. I guess this rare factor could be why clairvoyance is thought of as THE psychic gift to have, because it’s more exclusive somehow.

Why Most People Don’t Need Clairvoyant Gifts

Are clairvoyant abilities better than the other psychic gifts, like clairaudience or clairsentience?

I don’t think so. All the intuitive vehicles are meant to work together. In fact, I’d say that clairvoyance is not always needed, unless you’re a medium.

On the other hand, most people need some clairsentience, to pick up vibes from people. Some clairaudience or claircognizance is helpful as well, to get quick warnings from your guides or higher self, like ‘run!’ or ‘don’t take that road’. But I can’t think of any situations where clairvoyant abilities are absolutely essential in everyday life, unless you do psychic/mediumship readings in your work. I personally do not use clairvoyance in my work much. I do sometimes ‘see’ clients’ past lives, but when I need to know details about a situation, my guides will tend to just ‘put’ the information into my brain, rather than sending me symbols or metaphors or images.

How to Develop your Clairvoyant Abilities

Even if you’re not a natural clairvoyant, you can still develop your clairvoyance. Flexing my clairvoyant muscles was the first thing I did when I started developing psychically. I picked up a good book called Psychic Development for Beginners by William Hewitt and began using his exercises to open up my third eye (the exercise is below.)

I have to say that the below exercise opened up my third eye (the centre of clairvoyant abilities) quite spectacularly for a few days, then I got scared and shut it down again! I started to see my guides in my mind’s eye, and I saw things moving in the corner of my eye. I also saw coloured lights around people and I began to have really strange and vivid dreams, in colour. I wasn’t used to seeing so much, and it was overwhelming for me.

    An Exercise for Developing Clairvoyance

The exercise is this: visualize yourself holding seven balloons, of the colours red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and indigo. Let the balloons go one by one, beginning with the red balloon. Watch them float up to the blue sky until they disappear before you release the next one.

If you’re not used to visualizing, then this exercise could be quite difficult for you at first. You may find it hard to concentrate or it may be difficult for you to visualize vividly or in colour — it all depends on how developed your imagination muscles are.

Any activity which uses your visual imagination is good for strengthening clairvoyant abilities, because your imagination is the tool that Spirit uses to send you information, in the form of images. The more well-oiled your ‘imagination cogs’ are, the easier it is for spirit to send you clear images.

Here’s another way to open up your clairvoyance: Imagine a third eye, between your eyebrows. Visualize the eyelid on your third eye opening up. All visualization does is set an intention to do something. If you visualize this regularly, you’re putting energy behind your intention to open up your third eye, the centre of your clairvoyant abilities.

    Differentiating Between Imagination and Intuition

So, how can you tell the difference between what’s from your imagination and what’s from Spirit?

When you receive an image from Spirit, you are not in control. You are not creating the image — it just appears in your mind’s eye without any active participation from you.

    Blocks to Clairvoyance

A few people who are natural clairvoyants never see any evidence of their gift. When this happens, it usually means there is a blockage or an energy leak at the third eye chakra. At the bottom of this there tends to be some trauma caused by having ‘seen’ something unexpected or unpleasant.

There are two reasons I personally did not use to put much effort into developing my clairvoyant abilities further: one is that I felt I didn’t need it too much for my work and the second is that I didn’t really want to see, because I had a scary experience in the past.

When I was about five or six years old, I was playing in my bed late at night. I looked up and saw a woman standing in the corner of my room by the door, staring at me — just writing about it gives me the creeps. I have never been more frightened in my life than at that moment. All I can remember is pulling the covers over my head and hoping she’d go away. I remember my heart beating so fast that I thought it would burst! I think I decided at that point that seeing spirits was too frightening for me and it took a lot of time and some healing before my clairvoyance developed properly.

A lot of people have a blockage like this, due to some sort of frightening psychic experience. If this applies to you and you can locate or remember what is blocking your third eye, use my angelic healing exercise (method # 3) in this article: ‘Four Ways to Heal Yourself’ – it really works!

Any general blocks to truth can also affect your clairvoyance (and the overall state of your intuitive faculties). For example, if you live your life in a state of denial or falsehood, your clairvoyance will be weakened. If you want to have strong intuition, get into the habit of facing up to the truth in your life. If you kid yourself about something on a regular basis, it weakens your trust in your own perceptions and intuition and this will affect your clairvoyant abilities.

    Further Tips:

    • Place a lapis lazuli or clear quartz crystal over your third eye chakra, or go into a crystal shop with the intention of finding the right crystal to help you to open up your third eye. You may feel really drawn to one crystal in particular which can help you.
    • When you’re working with your clairvoyance at first, it can also help to close your eyes and use your mind’s eye rather than expecting to see things straight away with your physical eyes.
    • Use the affirmation “I am profoundly clairvoyant. It is safe for me to see”
    • Release and heal whatever fears or trauma you have around seeing spirits.

  • How to Stop Attracting Mr/Ms Wrong

How to Stop Attracting Mr/Ms Wrong

When clients have booked a reading with me in the past, it was often because they really wanted to find their ideal match but kept attracting Mr/Ms Wrong over and over again.

The work that we do together invariably focuses on the client’s default patterns of attraction. A client may tell me that they’re wanting a relationship that is X, Y and Z, but I tend to uncover some unconscious patterns of attraction in these readings which show that the client is attracting the opposite of what they say they want.

So, this article focuses on unconscious patterns of attraction in relationships, how you can recognize them and how you can clear them to bring in the new. Really all it takes is a genuine desire to create something different, a good look at your past and the conviction that you’re worthy of your desires.

Looking to your past for the answers

It’s kind of a common scenario isn’t it? People who attract the same kind of partner again and again. I used to be a pro at attracting men who were terrified of long-term relationships. I have a friend who attracts a lot of men who are self-destructive in some significant way. It seems uncanny how the same kind of partner or potential partner shows up again and again. It’s not a coincidence – there is a reason for it.

If it seems you’re unable to attract the relationship you want, you may have an old relationship story that no longer suits you, which needs clearing to make way for the new. Your old relationship story consists of one or more default patterns of attraction in relationships. A default pattern of attraction means that you attract a certain undesirable trait/qualities (or set of traits) over and over, without being conscious of it.

Your default patterns of attraction can have their origins in previous relationships or they can be learned from your parents, family or from society. And because like attracts like, once you start putting energy behind that default pattern of attraction (like when people complain that they only ever seem to attract the same types), it takes root, becomes reinforced and this makes it harder to break out of.

Becoming conscious of your own old relationship story

A really simple way to become conscious of your patterns of attraction in relationships is to list all your past relationships – however short or long – and see what the common trait(s) are.

I’m talking about the common traits which caused the end of the relationship or some conflict in the relationship. It may be a trait in either you or in your previous partner. You may see more than one common trait. For example, you may see among all your partners that they lacked commitment to you. You could see the pattern that you made projects of your partners and tried to change them. It could be that you have mostly dated people who were controlling.

Once you identify what you are attracting that you no longer want, you can clear it. You could tell yourself that you don’t need to take ownership of what you have attracted into your life in the past. However, the more responsibility you can take for your past relationships, the more you can learn from them.

Why we must learn from past relationships in order to move on from them

The universe has an uncanny way of matching us up with the right person who can show us where there is an imbalance in our way of being. For example, the angry person often ends up with the scaredy cat who can’t stand up to them. We attract people who teach us a lesson we need to learn. Sometimes those lessons are the most painful. If you’re the type who attracts angry people, ask yourself why this is. It could be that you need to practise setting boundaries. It could be that you grew up around angry people and never learned how to deal with them, and the universe is sending you another chance. If you are always attracting partners who need your help and rely on you too much, maybe it’s a call for you to heal your desire to change and make projects of other people.

Recognizing the lessons from our past is a healing process in itself. I learned in my cord-cutting training back in 2010 that you cannot cut an energetic cord to a previous partner until you know what the toxic patterns are contained within the cord and where they came from in the first place. I believe it’s the same with our experiences. If you don’t learn the lessons from your past relationships and see what they were showing you, life will continue to hit you over the head with the same experiences until you do.

    Bring in the new

If you’re letting go of what you don’t want – begin to focus on what you do want. Make a new list of desirable traits that you’re seeking in a partner (a list of non-negotiables). Some examples are: must have a sense of humour, must be financially solvent, kindness, willingness to commit, etc.

Get really clear on what you want. If you’ve experienced many unsatisfactory relationships, you probably already have an idea of what you do want, because you have experienced the opposite and that helps you to get clear on what you do want.

Next, look at your list of non-negotiables. Ask yourself whether you would date yourself. Do you have the traits on your list? For example, are you asking for a financially solvent partner when you’re broke? If so, you may be asking someone to rescue you.

A few months back I chatted with someone who was struggling with her finances, and she told me she was trying to meet a new partner and thought it would be nice to have a wealthy partner to help her in her finances. She met a broke guy. He also wanted to manifest a wealthy partner, and she showed up.

If there are some things in your list which you don’t embody, then commit to working on these as part of your process of attracting the ideal mate. Finding your ideal partner really does start from within. And it’s not about becoming perfect so that you can attract a perfect mate, it’s about becoming conscious of, and eradicating the parts of you which attract undesirable traits by default. Once you change from inside, the rest of the world shifts in response to the new you, including the relationships which come your way.

Did you know that cord cutting is an excellent way to change yourself from the inside out, and get a new relationship story?

I offer a professional training in cord cutting here.

And you can read more about my experiences with cord cutting here.

  • How to Overcome a Fear of the Spirit World

How to Overcome a Fear of the Spirit World

Several years ago I really wanted to open up to the spirit realm and learn to connect with my spirit guides, but for months on end, fear stood in my way. I was scared of seeing/hearing ghosts, disembodied voices, evil entities and even my own spirit guides. I felt that hardly anyone could help me overcome this issue and most of those who did just said I had to ‘face the fear’, which I felt wasn’t much help because I was paralyzed by it!  Later on I had some help and reassurance from other psychics and had many breakthroughs of my own in my understanding of the spirit world, which helped me to deconstruct my fear and see it for what it was. I will share some of these breakthroughs in this post.

Before I do, I just want to highlight that a certain level of comfort with exploring the spirit realm is definitely something worth attaining. We are meant to keep a connection to our own spirit. We are meant to receive guidance from our spirit guides. Connecting with spirit makes life easier and saves us hassle and energy when we’re going down the wrong road.

Here are some of my insights on fear of the spirit realm and how to overcome it:

    Where Fear Comes From

Fear can be constructive in that it alerts us to danger. If we’re about to be pushed off a cliff, we will naturally feel some fear because we’re in danger of dying. And of course this kind of fear serves us.

But sometimes it’s difficult to distinguish between when you’re perceiving a really dangerous situation and when you’re pre-empting the possibility of danger in the future. For many people, fear has become an automatic response to protect them when they’re encountering new situations. So often when we’re in unknown territory, fear comes along and rears its head. ‘Watch out! You don’t know this territory! Anything could happen!’

How helpful is this? Not very, in my view. Being in a state of fear is stressful, for the body, mind and spirit. Instead of allowing our fear to alert us to a real possibility of danger, we can be enslaved to our fear and constantly on edge, just in case something bad happens.

As fear is often unjustified, it can be helpful to challenge our fears when we’re doing something new. Fear is seldom alerting us to a genuine danger and this applies to psychic development too. What are you actually afraid of? You need to get clear on this so that you can deconstruct your fear. And deconstruct it you should, because a fear of the spirit world is usually based on lack of a consciousness.

But the Spirit World Is Frightening, Isn’t It?

When I was doing psychic development, the preempting gremlins who used to pop up and alert me to danger ahead were the people around me. Some people felt I was in putting myself in a vulnerable position by exploring the spirit world and they told me so.

In our collective consciousness there definitely exists a belief that it’s better not to mess with the spirit realm. I heard that a lot when I was starting out – some people around me felt that I was playing with fire. Luckily I understood the spirit world enough to know that wasn’t true and I continued in my intuitive development. But those sorts of attitudes are enough to put many beginners off.

This collective attitude of fear stems from a lack of understanding of the spirit realm and how it helps us. Cultures who have a tradition of understanding and working with the spirit realm have no fear of it. For the Native Americans, for example, there is nothing scary about connecting with Spirit or with deceased ancestors. The very fact that we call connecting with spirit ‘supernatural’ is telling. We make it into something that is unnatural, when spirit is who we are. We are meant to embrace the physical and spiritual worlds equally, not fear them.

Our Culture Has Made an Industry Out of the ‘Supernatural’

It’s no wonder many of us are terrified of meeting ghosts in the night when we have the film industry which makes money from arousing a fear of the spirit realm. People will pay to be scared and thrilled, so it’s more profitable to exploit people’s fears than it is to portray reality. However, while people are paying to be scared, they’re unconsciously learning that the spirit realm is weird, terrifying and dangerous. If you see these movies and know little about the spiritual realm, you may end up believing that if you develop psychic abilities, you risk having objects moving around your living room, voices coming from your walls and faces appearing on your kitchen tiles. I can assure you that the reality of it is much less eventful. I see spirits (in my mind’s eye) and I hear a voice, (my inner voice – it sounds just like my own voice, so it’s not in the least bit scary).

Thankfully, scary happenings have just not been a part of my psychic development experience. I have not seen a spirit in front of me looking like a real person since I was a small child. I have heard voices (like whisperings) upon occasion, but there is really nothing scary or intimidating about it. It was interesting more than scary. And this is the opinion of someone who two years ago was so paralyzed by fear of ghosts that I would not get up in the night to use the bathroom!

    Negative Forces

And then there is the fear of evil. If we open ourselves up to Spirit, don’t we encounter good spirits and bad spirits? I was scared more than once upon hearing that negative forces exist and that they eat girls like me for breakfast.

Yes, low-vibrational spirits do exist. Low-vibrational spirits tend to be earthbound spirits who are a bit lost and stuck. These spirits may appear to be malevolent or even demonic entities, but they’re not. Before you go thinking that you are being pursued by a negative entity, have a read of this article, to see how it’s common to mistake earthbound spirits for negative entities: Encounters with Ghosts

If you really feel that you’ve come across a low-vibrational spirit, which I doubt unless you’ve been messing with ouija boards, the most important thing to know is that low-vibrational spirits may look scary if you don’t know much about them, but once you understand how they function, you realize that they are nowhere near as scary as they appear. Let me explain…

We, as beings of Light get our vital life force from Source/God/the Creator (choose your favourite word). This is the energy which animates us, which feeds us.

Low-vibrational energies on the other hand are energies who feel separated from Source or God thus they feel they have no energy source of their own. Because they think they have no energy source of their own, they draw their power from other beings (like vampires). They do this by feeding off negativity in beings of light. This is why earthbound spirits attach to us – to draw energy from us.

But we need to remember that there is no ‘source’ of darkness to contend with. There is no Devil. Source or God is the only energy that is. Negative energy exists wherever there is an absence of Source, or light energy.

When you feel fear in the presence of a low-vibrational entity, that can in some cases nourish the entity and it grows and expands. It can even get scarier and scarier in proportion to your fear. You’re the one who’s feeding it. Quite simply, they are only as powerful as you allow them to be.

The first time I stood up to what I thought was a low-vibrational spirit it was so unscary it was laughable (in hindsight, it was probably an earthbound spirit that I mistook for a negative entity.) Either way, it was a bit like a kid in a Scream mask on Halloween. Take his mask off and underneath is someone who’s just getting off on scaring people. If you don’t realize that his mask is just a mask, you may run away, screaming. You can be sure that the entity will run after you, to get more fear energy out of you. But if you turn back and face the entity and run after it and de-mask it, the entity will then go and find someone else to scare. Simple as that.

So, Some Principles to Remember When Exploring the Spirit Realm:

    • Fear is based on a lack of consciousness about what you’re up against
    • Just because other people think the spirit realm might be scary doesn’t mean it is
    • Interaction with the spirit world is natural and beneficial and many native cultures think nothing of calling on their ancestors or guides
    • Focus on your fear and it will grow.
  • How to Find Your Calling As a Lightworker

How to Find Your Calling As a Lightworker

Do any of the following statements resonate with you?

    • You feel an intense desire to be of assistance and contribute something good to this world
    • You feel that planet Earth is not what it was meant to be
    • You sometimes feel alien and out of place here because of your values

If you said yes to more than one of the above, you’re probably a lightworker – a soul who has a mandate for spiritual service.

If you’re a lightworker, your purpose will inevitably be some variant on this theme: to serve others; to contribute something good to this world; to raise consciousness. So, the ‘why’ of your purpose is simple.

Where more lightworkers get stuck is in finding the ‘how’ of their purpose. How are you going to contribute and be of service? Where do you go from realizing your purpose to actually putting that purpose into practice?

To identify the ‘How’ of purpose, you first have to understand the nature of purpose.

Purpose is not what you do – it’s what you are

My guides constantly point out to me that we are fulfilling our soul’s purpose just by being here and being who we are. In readings, when I ask about purpose, my guides rarely talk about tasks to complete. Instead, they often give a set of qualities or attributes that you’re here to be. This is not usually a task – it’s something that is entirely natural to you because it’s who you are.

    Who we are counts

We underestimate what we can achieve and heal just by being ourselves. Like the proverbial ripples on a lake, every action we take and every word we say has consequences.

A friend recently told me a story. On the anniversary of her daughter’s death, she was visiting her daughter’s grave in the cemetery to put flowers on it. She had parked her car in a spot that was easy to get out of, on a tiny country road, but when she returned to her car, she had been trapped into that space by two other cars, one behind her and one in front of her. Getting out of that space looked impossible. By the time she had eventually got out of the parking spot, she realized that there was no way she could turn round and she had effectively trapped herself in the road. The only way she could turn round was in someone’s drive, which had a locked gate. She was trapped in. She began to panic. The emotions of sadness and grief began to overwhelm her. She was wondering what to do.

Then she saw the occupant of the gated house coming down her drive and opening the gate. My friend got out of her car to thank her and as she did, the stranger gave her a hug and held her for a moment. She began to cry and was overcome with gratitude at the kindness this stranger had shown her.

The woman probably never realized how appreciated her kindness was. But like that woman, without putting a lot of effort into it, we all bring our positive energies to the world every day, whether they are healing, courageous, nurturing, innovative or patient. You impact on people in small ways every day. Purpose is not about ‘what should I do’ but rather ‘who am I and how can I act in a manner that is true to myself?’

We don’t have to think ‘how am I going to do good today?’. As the spiritual teacher Byron Katie says ‘when you see suffering, love moves into action through you’. You do good because it’s in your nature.

Who are you and what are your values?

Ask yourself: what is special about you? What energies do you bring into this world, just by virtue of being you?

Unless you’re lucky and just fall into it, to find your calling, you have to know yourself. Having a calling is about taking what you love to BE in your life and finding the most natural continuation of that which financially remunerates you.

So ask yourself: What do you long to bring to the lives of others? – healing? Nurturing? Supporting? Honesty? Courage? Compassion? Leadership? – This can be a difficult question to answer because it means you have to go inside of yourself and connect with your heart – something many of us aren’t used to doing. Pay attention to how the answer comes when you ask this question as it will surely be your Higher Self (your soul) that communicates with you.

What are you already being in your personal life that you love?

The interesting thing about this is that you are often already expressing, or at least LONGING to express these defining energies, in your personal life. Take a good look at your personal life and listen to your friends and family. What do they really appreciate about you? What do they feel is fundamental to you?

Before I became a healer, I brought the energies of healing into many of my personal relationships. I dated men whom I could help and heal and attracted friends who needed my help. I so wanted to express these energies in my life and that was the only way I had found to do that. In the end, my desire to express these energies was so strong that I attracted a career that was a good fit for channeling my healing energies. But before I could be in the place where I could attract the right career for me, I first had to identify my passion and my talents and see where they were already at work in my life.

Finding your calling does not have to be a fruitless, frustrating task. Even if there isn’t a career that seems like a good fit for you at the moment, don’t despair. Sometimes we have to do a little inner work before we can get there.

To live your purpose even further and get into a place where you can find your perfect career, ask yourself:

    1. Who am I really?

    2. How can I be more of what I am, in my personal life? Around friends and family? With strangers? How can I most naturally bring what is special about me to the lives of others?

    Further clues to your passion

Another way to identify who you love to be is by looking at your previous jobs and the job you’re doing now. Why did you like your jobs in the past? What did they allow you to be and do that made you feel alive?

For example, before I trained in healing, I was a teacher. I loved teaching because it allowed me to impart information and raise consciousness. I loved to help others grow and develop themselves. In fact, that was the only reason I was in teaching!

What if you’ve never had a job that you liked, ever? If you don’t know what your passion is, then you might need to explore a little. Try out some new things – some new hobbies, some new jobs. Notice when you’re enjoying yourself. Think about why. Ask yourself – what is this allowing me to be and do that I love being and doing?

    Blocks to finding your calling

Block # 1: When you can’t be yourself and don’t value yourself

If your calling is a mission of being yourself and expressing that which is fundamental about you, it follows that self-acceptance is essential. If on any level you are repressing who you are and not saying yes to yourself, you’re not in a place where you’re seeing that you have value to contribute. You probably won’t see what that value is. It’s impossible to attract your perfect career from that place. Only when you have self-acceptance and self-esteem can you find your calling. Naturally, you aren’t going to attract an outlet that allows you to express more of who you are if you aren’t already being yourself.

But once you align with your authentic self, you begin to attract activities and people who are more aligned with your real self, in personal life, in leisure time, in friendships. This puts you in a very powerful position to attract your dream career.

Block # 2: When you don’t know who you are anymore

Occasionally a person can be so alienated from himself and his values that he has gradually lost that inner compass which tells him what aligns with who he really is and what doesn’t. And so he ends up ignoring his spirit and doing something just because others say he should.

To get back in touch with your purpose, sometimes you have to shed everything we’ve been taught about what you’re here to do and be and get back in touch with yourself and what you really want. Actively cultivate a connection with your Higher self, who knows who you are.

Block # 3: When you’ve been taught that it’s actually impossible to be yourself and get paid for it

Like most people you may have a collection of limiting beliefs that follow the refrain ‘you can’t be your true self, stay true to your values and do what you like doing – it won’t pay the bills’.

Once you understand who you are and what you’re here to be and do, seek a calling that aligns with your passion and gifts and don’t compromise.

So, to summarize, you can begin to attract the right calling when you know who you are, accept and value who you are, and are committed to being that. Attracting your calling is relatively easy to do from a place of self-acceptance and self-esteem. You draw the activities and people towards you which allow you to creatively express yourself. If you’re not in that place of self-acceptance and self-knowledge, aim for that instead right now.

Go on a journey of self-discovery

    Ask yourself:

    • Who or what is preventing me from being my true self?
    • What do I wish I could be?
    • What do I and others feel is unique about me?
    • What jobs and activities have I enjoyed in the past and why?
    • What do I love to do/be in my free time and in my personal life?
    • How can I express myself further in small ways, personally and professionally?
    • How can I hold true to my values more?

The most important thing to know is this: You are the way you are for a reason. You were born to be you and creatively share yourself with the world.
